Anniversary Party A Success
By George L. O'Brien
The AIMS Anniversary Party on Sunday, May 6th was quite successful. There was a good crowd and they seemed to have a good time plus several venue owners who got a chance to see some groups.
Part of the reason for the good turnout was the nice coverage in the ARIZONA REPUBLIC including the front of the entertainment section of the Saturday paper. We had more than a dozen phone calls from people asking for information.
We not only had a number of new people in the audience, but they "hung around" for a while - the surest sign that the program is a success.
I would like to being by thanking Jimmy O'Connor for hosting our event and for his contributions to the raffle. (I will be posting a full page of the generous contributors to the raffle and auction onto our web site.) Jimmy did more than simply host the event, he did a fine job of promoting the party.
Many volunteers deserve thanks for their hard work. In particular I want to mention Don and Arlene Boch who set up the raffle and auction, Mary Moriarity who organized the food and Jack who helped as cashier, Peter McAvinney who did a little of everything, Charlene Marquardt, Debbie Konat, Glenda Walker, Letta Griffin, and Colleen Gallagher.
Caitlyn Winters of Molly Malone not only was a performer, but also served as an MC and announced the raffle and auction items with the help of Erin Lewis.
I want to thank all the dancers from the dance schools with special mention of their leaders: Sharon Judd of McTeggart School, Carrie Haney of McElligott School, and Karen Turner of Bracken School
Most of all, I want to thank the musicians: Mike Donovan;, Tony Cummins; Caitlyn Winters, Erin Lewis and Paul Knight of Molly Malone; Brian O'Carroll and Greg "Kozy Kozak of Carroll MacGreggor; Joe Bethancourt (who performed solo and with the Bringers); Jerica and Chris Turner plus Brian Abernathy of One Eyed Fiona; Shay Veno, Jane Hilton, Billy Brett, Paul Knight and Brian Dwyer of the Clare Voyants; Steve Colby, Kenny Mulqueen and Dennis McMorrow of Seanachie; and finally Vash, Michi Regier, Byron Miller, Catherine Rustenbeck, Nichelle Scott, and Joe Bethancourt. They did an outstanding job which was reflected in how long many people stayed.
Several of the musicians stayed after the regular performance for a seisiun which went very well.
Part of the program was the birthday celebration for Jimmy O'Connor and Jack Griffin. The cake was really beautiful (it had shamrocks and green trimmed icing).
Finally, I want to thank everyone who came by. I know how busy people are, so I really do appreciate the support shown in coming by and contributing to the raffle and auction.
