Easter Rising Commemoration

Sunday, April 8, 2007

10:30 AM Gaelic Mass
11:45 AM Presentation

The Irish Cultural Center will be presenting The Easter Rising Commemoration. Father Joe Gillespie will say a Mass in the Irish language at 10:00 am. At 11:00 am there will be a multi media presentation by Jim Daugherty on the history of Ireland with emphasis on the Easter Rebellion of 1916.

Why was there a 1916 Easter Rebellion?", "What was it?", "Who was in it?" and "Why was it important?" The 1916 Easter Rebellion Commemoration is a multi-media answer to those and other questions, including "Who are the Irish people?" It is told as a story of Ireland from the earliest mystical times up to, through and after the Rising. The story includes visual presentation of maps, portraits, documents, buildings and relics, and by live performances of songs and music.

Music for the program will be provided by Shay Vino and Jane Hilton. During breaks, Irish baked goods and tea and coffee will be available for sale. There is no charge for the event.
