JULY 2008
About the Festival
Join us in the village of Irishtown for the inaugural celebration of the area's Irish heritage. South-central Pennsylvania is traditionally known for being an area of the State populated by German immigrants but what is less known (and celebrated) is it's Irish heritage. Come join us for the first year of what we hope to be a long-standing tradition. There's plenty of traditional Irish music provided by local bands as well as bagpipes and a harper. Irish dancing will be performed by the Coyle School of Irish dance. We also have many vendors selling gifts direct from Ireland as well as others selling food and drink (yes, we have Guinness!). Have your picture taken with Leprechaun 1, Irishtown Fire Company's green fire truck. Kids may even be able to take a ride around Irishtown as well. The festival site is located less than an hours drive from Harrisburg, the capital of Pennsylvania and less than two hours from major cities such as Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington D.C. Adults: $3, Kids under 12: Free Parking: $1 donation to Irishtown Fire Company

About the Festival
At one time all of Europe was Celtic. From the Caucasus to the islands off the west of Scotland, Celtic peoples shared a common culture and a common
language. The seven nations have kept these traditions alive for over two thousand years. The expansive influence of Celtic culture stands in sharp contrast
to the small geographical size of the Celtic countries. We have carried our heritage with us all over the world. Scholars have long suggested that the
Celtic cultural influence on America has been profound.

About the Festival
The Fergus Scottish Festival is one of the premier Scottish Festivals in Canada. Each year this event draws more than 50,000 vistors to the town of Fergus.
The weekend centers around competitions: the Heavy Events, the Highland Dancing, the Piping and the Drumming. There's also Scottish-Canadian music acts as
well as a Heritage Tent with on-going workshops and seminars.
One of the largest events of its kind in North America, the Fergus Scottish Festival has been celebrating this weekend of Scottish music, dance, and games for
over half a century. Blending leisure with competition, the festival offers three days of pipe and drum and dance competitions, festive ceremonies,
traditional Heavy Events championships, and other Scottish activities. Celtic music is performed on multiple stages throughout the grounds, as various
contests and competitions heat up.
There's no shortage of unique activities and demonstrations here - like the Avenue of the Clans, the Saturday Ceilidh and sheep shearing demonstrations. Other
events include storytelling, a golf tournament, and a "Kilted Kilometre Run and Relay" - open to kilted participants only! Marketplaces and tents offer
Scottish foods and crafts, and there's even a tea garden and a children's activity area. Festival organizers do everything they can to offer folks "a wee bit
