 ---   ABOUT LAST WEEKEND'S RECEPTION FOR DR. TIM CAMPBELL


Last Sat there was a reception. at the ICC for Dr. Tim Campbell, Executive Director of the St. Patrick's Centre, located in Downpatrick, County Down, Northern Ireland (http://www.saintpatrickcentre.com/) and Ms.Jane Anderson, Executive Director of the Milwaukee Irish Fest, the world's largest Irish Festival. (Aug 19-22) http://www.irishfest.com/


"The Saint Patrick Centre is the only permanent exhibition in the World dedicated to Ireland's Patron Saint and one of the top tourist destinations in Ireland. Situated in the heart of Saint Patrick's Country, beside Down Cathedral and Patrick's Grave, we are just 2 hours north of Dublin and 40 mins south of Belfast. The Centre provides a cutting edge interactive exhibition about the life and legacy of Patrick and is a central hub on the new Saint Patrick's Trail through Counties Armagh and Down. As a non-profit organisation we provide reconciliation education programs to thousands of children in Northern Ireland every year as well as running cross border and international youth programs. The Friends of Saint Patrick is a support organisation which is growing around the World to make people aware of our work and the new Northern Ireland."

---   IRISH FOUNDATION FEBRUARY MEETINGS

The Irish Foundation of Arizona will meet on Wednesday, 3 Feb 2010, at The Irish Cultural Center, 1106 N. Central Ave., Phoenix at 7:00 P.M.  There will be a short business meeting, followed by a fun-filled episode of Ballykissangel (an Irish television program filmed in Avoca, in the Wicklow area). 

 

Remember, we will be accepting nominations for new Board members at the February and March meetings.  We hope to see you!

Hey George,
 
Don't know why, but it seems we,Paddy's Peg Leg, have been left off the list the past few weeks.  We still play there every Saturday at 12:30 p.m. & play until about 3:00 p.m.  We are a traditional Irish band and the only covers we play are Irish ones.  We are also going to be playing there on St. Patrick's Day at either 12:00-3:00 p.m. or 1-3 p.m.  We have other dates tentatively scheduled, but I will get back to you when they firm up.  So please put us back on the list & encourage people to come out and see us every Saturday afternoon.

Dear Phoenix & AZ Contra Dancers,

This Wednesday caller Deb Comly from snowy Flagstaff and Phoenix’s own ClusterFolk will meet you at the Irish Cultural Center for an evening of invigorating contra dancing. Hey Ladies, there have been extra guys showing up lately at the 4th Wednesday contra dance. Come and join the fun!
    
NOTE: Meet for dinner before the dance at the restaurant inside the Lexington Hotel, just next door to the Irish Cultural Center to the south. 6 PM-ish.

EVENT DESCRIPTION:      The St. Valentine’s Day Benefit and Dance is a non-Stop singing, dancing, piping, fund-raising, laughing, drinking, eating all-in-a-good- cause great day out for the whole family! This mini-festival and fundraiser is headlined by internationally recognized Scottish singer Ed Miller, in a rare Phoenix-area appearance. You will also hear Irish diva Brid Dower, The Knockabouts, Brazen Heads, Biffos, Pat McCrossan, members of the McMorrows, Four Peaks Irish Arts and Mythic Crew (storyteller Liz Warren & John Good). De Mairt Ceol will play for the evening Ceili (Everyone-one-join-in social dance with instruction!)

One the second stage there’ll be Irish step dancing from area dance schools with pipe bands marching through the courtyard throughout the day. There will be a silent auction and a huge 50/50 raffle. Food and a full bar will be available. Special bed and breakfast rates are available at a within-walking-distance hotel.

Description

I am very concerned about the spread of buffelgrass throughout our desert. It is a wildfire waiting to happen and it burns so hot that all desert vegetation is destroyed in the wake of the fire. Please consider joining the fight by registering at www.buffelgrass.org. There are 11 sites throughout the basin and the pull is from 8 -11 am on Saturday Feb 6. The more citizen support we get at this event, the more grass we can pull, but also we can capitalize on the show of citizen support to bring federal funds in to help us.
