1. OUT AND ABOUT
--- PUB NEWS
Auld Dubliner in Glendale is planning to open this week and the Turf hopes to be open by the weekend of Feb 21. The Next Coffee House is in the process of gettting a liquor licence and wants to do Irish music at least once a month.
--- SEISIUN NEWS
I’ve added a link to the Fibber Folks Yahoo group (you need to sign up to get the full impact) on the Venues page. While started by the seisiun players from Fibber Magee’s (meets on Sunday afternoons), it is really a great source for the entire seisiun community. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Fibbers-Folks/
We have a new web page for the seisiun at Lis Doon Varna, http://www.azirishmusic.com/LDV_Seisiun/ which includes a list of tunes as well as song lyrics including YouTube clips and many have sheet music
--- QUIET WEEKEND BEFORE DELUGE OF EVENTS
It seems odd that there are no “big” events this weekend. I’m hoping the weather holds for my annual trip to the Arizona Renaissance Festival (includes Monday) because things get pretty busy the next few weeks. (There is a fundraiser in Tucson) The ICC Ceili is mostly using recordings (live music is scheduled for the 20th) although some players do drop in once in a while.

One of the many publications to laud the new release of Day After Tomorrow the Boston Globe says, “A half century into her career, folk icon Joan Baez is making a return of sorts – not to vintage material, but to songs that evoke the spirit and message of her defining early work…Baez has never sounded wiser, or more deeply human.”
The Americana Music Association recently honored Baez with the prestigious “Spirit of Americana” Free Speech Award at their annual Festival and Conference in Nashville. Earlier this year, Baez returned to Harvard University’s Sanders Theatre for a show to benefit Club Passim, the Harvard Square successor to the legendary Club 47. About Charlie And The Bhoys
www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/Charlie-and-the-Bhoys
Charlie and The Bhoys are an Irish band, based in Glasgow, Scotland.
The band traces its roots some 15 years ago, when they played their first concert at the Squirrel Bar near the Gallowgate, Glasgow in 1991. They band brand themselves as the "Number 1 Celtic Band in the World" and have enjoyed a reasonable degree of success in this role, having played to audiences across the world including Glasgow, New York and other cities in North America, Australia, Dubai and all across the UK and Ireland. Celtic music is a term utilized by record companies, music stores and music magazines to describe a broad grouping of musical genres that evolved out of the folk musical traditions of the Celtic peoples of Western Europe. ...
The band's name is derived from the nickname for Celtic Football Club, about which most of their music celebrates. They are also bigoted terrorist loving bastards and oh aye BJK

6. LOOKING FOR BANDS IN FLORENCE
Hi there,
My name is Brandy Koff and I am the Lifestyle Director here at Anthem Parkside Merrill Ranch in Florence Arizona. I found your info from http://www.azirishmusic.com. I am looking for a band to come entertain the residents here for 3 hours on March 14th from 6-9pm. The evening will be full of food, fun and green beer. The evening will probably cater to about 150 people (families & active adults 50+). We are an all age community.
Might you be interested in performing for us? If so, how much do you typically charge? Being the website doesn’t specify how much you charge you might be outside my price range but I wanted to ask.
Looking forward to hearing back from you.

7. FUNDRAISER FOR TUCSON ST. PATRICK’S DAY FESTIVAL ON SUN
Join us to support the Tucson St. Patrick's Day Festival and the Community Food Bank - Sunday afternoon, February 15, 2009
Round the House in concert with Maguire Academy of Irish Dance
Round the House, Tucson's own award winning Irish band will team up with Maguire Academy of Irish Dance on February 15, 2009, 2pm- 4 pm at the Vail Theater of the Arts, 10701 E. Mary Ann Cleveland Way, Tucson ( 2 miles north of I-10/Houghton Rd. intersection or about 1 mile south of Houghton and Valencia). This is a charity benefit for the Tucson Community Food Bank and the St. Patrick's Day Parade with sponsorship is provided by the National Junior Honor Society of Desert Sky Middle School. Tickets are available at the door: suggested donation $10 adult, $5 kids under 14. The concert venue is the 600-seat, Vail Theater of the Arts- a gorgeous brand new state-of-the-art theater located just east of Houghton Rd at the Empire High School.
All proceeds from this concert will go to the Community Food Bank and the St. Patrick's Day Festival. The festival was rained out last year and is struggling to make a financial come back in order to continue this wonderful Tucson tradition. The Community Food Bank has seen an unprecedented increase in need this year; up 36% over last year. Each dollar raised through this event will allow the Food Bank to distribute $9 worth of food. This concert is sponsored by the Desert Sky Middle School National Junior Honor Society, who are continuing their work to support the hungry, following a successful fall food drive last November.
This is sure to be a high spirited and delightful Irish show.. you will hear jigs and reels, see dancers kick their heels up, and be touched by songs - all in one concert.
Round the House performs dynamic instrumentals on fiddle, mandolin, guitar and bodhran, as well as distinctively crafted arrangements of songs in English and Irish ( www.roundthehouse.com). Round the House is based in Tucson Arizona, where they have been awarded the Tucson Area Musicians Award for best traditional ethnic band for six years running. Their members have also won individual awards for best guitar, best strings, and best female vocalist. Known for creating great rapport with audiences, they have an enthusiastic following that is growing every year. They recently shared concerts with top Irish groups Teada and the Dave Munnelly Band and they are veteran performers at the North Texas Irish Festivals as well as at other festivals, concert halls and pubs in the Southwest and beyond. Round the House has been performing together for over ten years and released Safe Home, their third cd, in March, 2007 to excellent reviews nationally. The Maguire academy produces national level dancers and striking show performances under the tutelage of Darren Maguire
and Maeve Croke of Riverdance fame.
