“The regiment has its own Pipes and Drums, who tour widely and perform in competitions, concerts and parades. Their most famous piece is Amazing Grace, which reached number one in the charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and South Africa in 1972. The band is set to release a new CD in late November 2007 through Universal Music, and is likely to feature a number of classic pipe tunes along with some modern arrangements. ----------------------------------------------------------
Start out the Patrick's Day season with a gala event at Tucson's FOX Theater on Wednesday March 5th. This jam packed evening of high spirited music will lead off with music by Tucson's award winning band, Round the House, followed by the sensational David Munnelly Band, and includes performances by former Riverdance lead Darren Maguire and championship dancers from the Maguire Academy.
Round the House will be sharing the stage with an absolutely fabulous band from Ireland, the David Munnelly Band. Featured on PBS, NPR, & BBC World Television - they showcase a driving Mayo-style of playing with a bit of the jazz-influenced Roaring 20's Irish American style thrown in (they even travel with a tap dancer). Button accordion wizard & leader of the overall mayhem David Munnelly performed with The Chieftains for 4 years. His multi-award winning band creates a tight, spirited sound. Not only that, but singer, Shauna Mullin is truly one of the most gifted traditional singers we have heard. We are lucky to get them in Tucson, which is why this concert is on a Wednesday - they are off to LA for the weekend. Check out their Website at http://www.davidmunnelly.com
----------------------------------------------------------
Irish button accordion wizard David Munnelly brings new excitement and depth to traditional music while drawing for inspiration on past masters including the Roaring 20's Flanagan Brothers. The David Munnelly Band exploded onto the scene with hit albums in Europe & Japan, dual CD releases in North America, and a full tour schedule. "They are a creative force at the true epicentre of Irish traditional music." (liveIreland.com)
With their unique West Mayo style of playing - a style as wild, free and awe inspiring as the rugged West Coast of Ireland -David Munnelly & his band are making waves on both sides of the Atlantic. David has toured & performed with The Chieftains, DeDanaan, and other legendary Irish artists. David also composed & recorded the original soundtrack for the TG4 special "Solas sa nDorchadasm" for which he received the 2004 Composer of the Year Award. He also received the 2005 Composer of the Year Award.
In 2001, David released his first CD, Swing, in effort to craft a sound that was both unique, yet reminiscent of the free-spirited exuberance which typified the American Irish Dance Hall scene of the Roaring 20's. In 2003, he and his band joined the prestigious Irish Unplugged tour of Europe with Francis Black. One year later, David's second CD, "By Heck," was released to critical & popular acclaim in Ireland, Europe & Japan, and was recently released as well in North America.
2005 saw the band's highly successful U.S. Debut Tour, when they covered over 10,000 miles on the highways & byways of America, from Maine's Atlantic coast to Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains and Michigan's North Woods to Kansas' Great Plains. In 2006, David & the group have been featured around the world on the BBC World Television programme "Destination Music: Ireland." In America, they are featured in a two part concert on the National Public Radio program "Celtic Connections," and in a PBS Television special.
Now poised to conquer a new continent with their peerless playing, unique musical style, and irrepressible enthusiasm, come see for yourselves why, in describing David Munnelly, German music promoter Carston Linde says, "Pure Irish magic!"

About Cara
Cara is a band formed in 2003, rooted in Irish and Scottish traditional music, but with ambitions to create a new and unique sound. Each of the four musicians has made a name for themselves at home and abroad through their involvement in various projects and got together in this line-up to create their own world of music. CARA members have played with: More Maids, Adaro, DeReelium, Steampacket, La Marmotte, Deirin Dé — not including many guest studio and stage appearances.
GUDRUN WALTHER - VOCALS, FIDDLE, VIOLA, BUTTON ACCORDION
Gudrun was brought up in a musical family with Irish and French folk music and started to play traditional music on the fiddle at the age of six. Classical training provided a solid technical basis which made her Germany's probably youngest professional in traditional music at the age of nineteen. Now she can look back on many successful engagements, being involved a studio or guest musician in many recordings and concerts with bands and orchestras. Gudrun is a member of all-women band More Maids. “Gudrun Walther could certainly hold her own in any Irish musical setting.“ (Dirty Linen Magazine, Jan 04)
SANDRA STEINORT - VOCALS, FLUTES, PIANO
Sandra studied music at the renowned Folkwang College in Germany and is classically trained on piano and singing. Soon she fell in love with traditional music and discovered the wooden flute, which now is her main instrument. Her sweet and mellow soprano voice has developed through the years while she sang in various a-capella projects and - needless to say - in many a singing sessions in Ireland.
JÜRGEN TREYZ - GUITARS
Jürgen studied guitar at the MGI in Munich. During that time he also became engaged with traditional and medival music. In 1993 he founded the artes recording studio which specialises in acousitic and traditional music. Being involved in radio plays, theatre plays and TV productions as a guitarrist, composer and arranger, he has published over 50 albums with his own music and was repeatedly rewarded with the renowned Prize of the German Record Reviewers. In 2002, he and his band "Adaro" published the album "minnenspiel", which was highly praised by the critics and even by Deep-Purple founder Ritchie Blackmore.
CLAUS STEINORT - FLUTES, UILLEANN PIPES, CONCERTINA
Apart from being highly skilled on the Irish flute in technical and stylistic terms, Claus produces a distinctive tone and an expressive flow which make his playing truly unique. Having spent much of his time in Ireland, he has developed and polished a musical style which has absorbed influences from other instrument players such as pipers and fiddlers. Claus is a founding member of the bands Dereelium and Steampacket.
ROLF WAGELS - BODHRAN
Rolf is featured on the Cara-CD "In Colour" and supports the band on many live performances. He's well-known in Germany and has a high reputation among Irish musicians. He's a member of DeReelium and Steampacket.
TOLA CUSTY (GUEST MUSICIAN) - FIDDLE
Since early 2006, Tola Custy, (fiddle player from Ennis, Co. Clare) occasionally supports us on tour. He will also be featured on our new CD which is due in winter 2006/07. He has become renowned in the Irish music scene for his playing with singer and bouzouki player Cyril O'Donoghue. He is a founding member of the celebrated band Calico. Being deeply rooted in the Clare tradition, he has developed a very distinctive style, sweet - yet powerful!

10. WESTERN MUSIC CAMPS
[EDITOR’S NOTE: Music camps are an important way for musicians to learn from top instructors, meet other musicians, and just have fun. The following is taken from the website and just lists the ones in the West. There are numerous others, so check out http://www.azirishmusic.com/fest_workshops.htm.
Most music camps involve much more than just Celtic music, but I’ve tried to include all the ones that give specific attention to Celtic music.
I should make special note of the Friday Harbor Camp that is coming up at the start of Mar. This is run by Randal Bays, who has performed in Phoenix a couple of times, and the camp attracts a number of local players every year.]

When Dan got interested and suggested Friday Harbor, the Friday Harbor Irish Music Camp
