8. FRI. FEB 23 - READER`S THEATER PRESENTS BECKETT

On Friday, February 23, 2006, at The Irish Cultural Center located at 1106 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85004 j oin Arizona Readers Theater as we end our celebration of Waiting for Beckett: A Centenary Celebration. Members will read selections from Molloy , Krapp`s Last Tape , Watt , and Beckett`s poetry. Admission is $5.00 and the presentation starts at 7:30 pm

Nothing is funnier than unhappiness, I grant you that. ... Yes, yes, it`s the most comical thing in the world. And we laugh, we laugh, with a will, in the beginning. But it`s always the same thing. Yes, it`s like the funny story we have heard too often, we still find it funny, but we don`t laugh any more. Samuel Beckett, Endgame.

Of all the English-language modernists, Beckett`s work represents the most sustained attack on the realist tradition. He, more than anyone else, opened up the possibility of drama and fiction that dispense with conventional plot and the unities of place and time in order to focus on essential components of the human condition. Writers like V clav Havel, John Banville, Aidan Higgins and Harold Pinter have publicly stated their indebtedness to Beckett`s example, but he has had a much wider influence on experimental writing since the 1950s, from the Beat generation to the happenings of the 1960s and beyond. In an Irish context, he has exerted great influence on writers like John Banville, Derek Mahon, Thomas Kinsella.

Beckett is one of the most widely discussed and highly prized of twentieth-century authors, inspiring a critical industry to rival that which has sprung up around James Joyce. has divided critical opinion.

19. PARADE LOOKING FOR ST. PATRICK`S DAY SPONSORSHIPS

Hi Folks,

I know in our busy day to day lives we might overlook some important opportunities to help others as we help ourselves.

The attached sponsorship opportunities for this year`s St. Patrick`s Day Parade and Faire include many levels of participation that enable you and your business to be recognized not only on Saturday March 17, 2007 but throughout the year via our websites, T-shirts and banners or logos.

Please take another look and see if there is a comfortable level for you and your business. We are nearing our print deadline (Feb. 15, 2007) and would like as many interested parties in our program with over 50,000 issues that are distributed throughout the Valley and our websites are there 24/7/365.

21. MAMA JAVA`S LOOKING FOR BANDS

Mr. O`Brien:

I do the bookings for a Thursday night concert series at Mama Java`s Coffeehouse in Phoenix, which we call The New Americana Cafe series. What we`ve been doing is booking in two bands per show that play what I call "roots-oriented" music, meaning music that has some anchor in traditional musics of somew kind. Each band plays for an hour. I`ve had two Irish/celtic acts play for us a few times, first The Black Velvet Band, and a fellow named Iain Walinck, a Scottish gentlemen who understand frequents the jams at the Irish bar up on Camelback (name escapes me).

I`m interested in having more Irish/celtic musicians play for us, if they`re willing to work for unfortunate coffeehouse wages, and I wonder if you would be able to put a mention that we`re looking for musicians into your web page.

I have a website that describes what we`re doing Thursday nights at www.newamericanacafe.netfirms.com. The email address they can reach me at is bluegrassriver@gmail.com, and you can call me if you need to at 602-348-8683.

Thanks very much.
