--- EASTER RISING REMEMBRANCE ON SUN APR 12

On Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009, the Irish Cultural Center will be presenting our annual Easter Rising Remembrance at 1:00 pm. This multi media presentation will be narrated by Jim Daugherty with musical accompaniment by Jane Hilton and Shay Veno. Unlike previous years, this year there will NOT be a Catholic Mass spoken in Irish. Plan to join the community for this historical and now traditional presentation. Irish tea and soda bread will be available at the break. Volunteers are still needed, please contact Jim Daugherty at djr9@msn.com or call the Center at (602) 258-0109.

3. TROTTER’S WAKE TO PLAY ACOUSTIC MUSIC SHOWCASE THIS SATURDAY

Hey George,

Trotters Wake will be returning to play the first one hour set at the Irish Acoustic Music Showcase next Saturday, April 11th at 1:00 p.m. Paddy's Peg Leg & friends will be playing the second set from approximately 2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Irish Acoustic Music Showcase will be at Lis Doon Varna Restaurant & Pub every Saturday, featuring up and coming bands and performers. Anyone who would like an opportunity to introduce themselves, their duo or trio, to the west valley, should contact me.

Lis Doon Varna is located at 16100 Arrowhead Fountain Center in Peoria (south of 83rd Avenue & Bell).

Trotters Wake is a four-five piece vocal acoustic band consisting of Drew on Acoustic Guitar/Mandolin, Anna on Electric Piano/Bass, Sandy on Keyboard, Cyndy on Bodhran and our occasional fifth, Erin on Fiddle. Their genre is “Pub Traditional” - a mixture of Irish drinking songs, Irish and other Celtic ballads, and Irish dance music (polkas, jigs, etc.)

Paddy's Peg Leg consists of Chris on guitar and vocals, Gene on whistles and Jim on bodrhan. Often, guest players come and join the fun, as they too, play drinking songs, rebel songs and ballads.

Hope to see everyone come out for an afternoon of fun & music.

4. CONTRADANCE NEWS

Dear Phoenix and AZ Contra Dancers,

Contra for Connoisseurs
Saturday, April 11th, 2:30 - 5:00 pm at Kenilworth School

A special bonus contra dance will be held Saturday afternoon, April 11th. In addition to the regular 2nd Saturday contra dance in the evening, the Contra for Connoisseurs dance will be held from 2:30–5:00 pm. Laila Lewis and Peg Hesley will be joined by ClusterFolk for an afternoon of fun, Intriguing, thrilling, and zesty contra dances. Please bring some special snacks to share for the afternoon dance.

Following a dinner break, the dancing will continue with the regular 2nd Saturday Contra Dance, calling by Laila Lewis. The dance is from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. Bring a friend. If they have never danced invite them to join the fun at 7:00 pm for the newcomer lesson. Admission for each dance is $10, $7 for members of AZ contra dance organizations.
