1. OUT AND ABOUT

-------------------------------------------------------
--- TONY IS BACK IN TOWN
-------------------------------------------------------

Hi, George:
-I think others on this list will be glad to see the return of Tony Cummins to the Dubliner later this month. According to Tony's website, he'll be there the 24th and 25th. Maybe you can get the early word out next week...same weekend as McDowell Mtn. Festival!
http://www.tonycummins.com/ 1Cheers,

Marc

--- YOUNG DUBLINERS AT MCDOWELL MTN MUSIC FESTIVAL
-------------------------------------------------------

Young Dubliners
1:15 – 2:45 PM
youngdubliners.com

Fuse together the feel of your favorite Irish pub on a Saturday night with the excitement of a St. Paddy’s Day celebration; toss it back with a jig ‘o whiskey and you’ve got yourself quite a party. The Young Dubliners are just that; a mix of Irish and Los Angeles natives that overflow with high energy that draws every audience into their world of high kicks and Irish jigs. Formed in Southern California in 1988, The Young Dubs play a mixture of Celtic, Irish, and good old-fashioned rock ‘n roll. Keith Roberts, front man and main staple of the band, was stuck in a revolving door of musicians until early 2000 where the current lineup was established. The Young Dubs play a variety of music from original recordings to traditional Irish songs, including “Bodhran” and “The Rocky Road to Dublin.” Their most recent release, entitled With All Due Respect – The Irish Sessions, is an excellent compilation of twelve Irish classics recorded live in studio. Similar to their Irish counterparts Dropkick Murphy’s and Flogging Molly, the Young Dubliners are an excellent group of musicians, filling their hits with catchy sing-along choruses and heavy guitar riffs and whether you’re enjoying a pint or not, this band knows how to turn the quietest afternoon into a jam-heavy night of Irish revelry and merrymaking!

--- MICHI TO JOIN FIDDLER’S DREAM FOLK FESTIVAL ON SAT
----------------------------------------------------------

Hi George!

I just got my note from Fiddlers' dream - their folk fest as you know is next weekend, Saturday April 25th. (www.fiddlersdream.org)

There is a jam (open to everyone) from noon - 1pm. $5 admission isn't much for ten hours of music!

My set is 3 - 3:30pm. I'll be playing favorite tracks from my new CD "Twisted Path." Likely partners in crime include my mom, Sujoy Spencer, as well as Walt Kuhlman and others.

By the way - did you see the nifty review Tom Tuerff wrote for my new baby? http://cdbaby.com/cd/michi2

Thanks, and hope to see you next week -

Michi

----------------------------------------------------------
--- BANDS SOUGHT FOR ACOUSTIC SHOWCASE
----------------------------------------------------------

George,

Paddy's Peg Leg will be playing the entire Irish Acoustic Showcase this Saturday at Lis Doon Varna. The last two weeks we split the sets with Trotters Wake and had a really great time. Last Saturday was especially fun as both bands played an hour fifteen minutes each and there was good audience participation. (Trotters Wake really pulled for us and we cheered them on too!)

I am still looking for other bands to play at the Showcase, so anyone who would like to introduce their new or upcoming duo, trio or band to a late lunch time crowd on the west side should contact me.

Thanks,

Chris Floyd

2. ASKING FOR HELP TO FIGHT DEPORTATION

Greetings all,

As some of you know, the band has been closely following the events of Irish political detainee Pol Brennan ( www.polbrennan.com ). We composed a song and got quite involved with his national support group. More details of our involvement can be found here: http://www.thebrazenheads.com/stuff.php

Just this week, his day in court arrived and for lack of better explanation, The Department of Homeland Security is activating a prior deactivated order of removal and deporting him in 7-10 days. There is a letter writing campaign going on which is explained in detail on his website.

The band decided not only was it important to get involved in writing letters, but because the appeal process to fight the deportation order is going to cost him in excess of $10,000.  We decided to join with the National Board of Hibernians and are attempting to quickly collect funds to help offset these costs.

We're hosting a fundraiser this Sunday for Pol and his family and are asking you all to come give.

Michael Cleveland, Pol's national support group manager will be coming to Arizona to attend the fundraiser and will be available to answer questions or give us all up to the minute news on Pol's ongoing battle. He will also be carrying a letter written by Pol addressed to the folks in Phoenix and will read this at the event.

Where: O'Connor's Pub
When: Sunday April 26th  3-till done

We'll be supplying food and music and thanks to the generous donations from many valley pubs, we'll also be having raffles and prizes.

If you would like to get involved, we are seeking the following:

1. Musicians willing to come donate their time.
2. Letters for the national campaign.
3. Organizational help with publicity, and getting the word out so people come!

If you are interested, please contact us through our website or you can ring LeeAnn at the number listed below.

Thanks to all of you for your continued and heartfelt support.

---------------------------------------------------------
George, If you wish to include a copy of our letter, I've pasted it below. thanks!
---------------------------------------------------------

Director Janet Napolitano
Department of Homeland Security
Washington, DC 20528

To The Honorable Director Janet Napolitano,

We are writing with a request on behalf of Irish detainee, Pol Brennan #A88 785 324, to humbly appeal for your attention on the matter of his removal to Northern Ireland. We respectfully request your consideration not to remove him from the United States based on the following information:

He has lived in the United States since 1984
He is NOT an Undocumented alien
He won the right to remain in the United States in a court of Law in 2000
He’s had an application for political asylum in the system since 2000
He’s had a work application in the system since 2006
He is married to a United States citizen

In addition, Mr. Brennan is currently incarcerated on a bureaucratic mistake (he broke no law) that has escalated into an inactive deportation order being reactivated. This oversight ignores an order from a United States court that granted him the right to remain in the the United States until an asylum hearing could be heard.

Mr. Brennan only requests that the Department of Homeland Security drop the action of removal and drop opposition to bail, so he may continue to fight his case for asylum in a fair and lawful manner in a court of law.

Respectfully,
