--- IRISH ACOUSTIC PUT ON HOLD
-------------------------------------------------------

The usual Sat afternoon program at Lis Doon Varna is on hold due to family health issues for Chris Floyd. It is possible that Lis Doon Varna will book someone else.

-------------------------------------------------------
--- BUSY TIME LAST WEEKEND
-------------------------------------------------------

I’m not sure how many readers of AIMS News and Notes know me. Besides slaving over a hot keyboard and leading the Lis Doon Varna Seisiun, I do get out a lot. Last weekend in particular I was out quite a bit. After visiting three pubs on Fri, I went to Fiddler’s Dream for their all day folk festival with special emphasis on hearing Michi. Michi is a wonderful fiddle player who moved away to get married and live north of Chicago.

Michi was joined by some local musicians and did a wide variety of music including Celtic, gypsy, Utranian, (I think), 20’s jazz, and the like. Her friends showed up in force. I’m trying to get her to come to a house party.

The seisiun players had a house party Sat evening in south Chandler. I stayed for just a couple of hours, but it was fun. Laura should be thanked for her hospitality.

I went by the Dubliner to say hello to Tony Cummins (he’ll be there this weekend as well). For people who have never heard Tony, it is hard to explain how crazy his gigs are. The Dub was absolutely packed.

On Sunday I briefly dropped in at the Irish Foundation picnic at the ICC before heading over to O’Connor’s. The picnics are a nice place to gather and touch base with people for the Irish community. I fear the picnics are quite as big in days past due to so much going on, but they are always fun.

The fundraiser for Pol Brennan at O’Connor’s on Sunday was an excellent show. The decision to put on the event was made on about ten days before it was held. It was impressive how much Lee Ann and the others did in some a short period. It was an enjoyable show that lasted until 9:00 PM.

As far as I can remember, this is the first fundraiser that ended up featuring the Brazen Heads and the McMorrows on the same show. Others who joined the show were Jane Hilton and Shay Veno (joined by Cozy), Wood, Wind and Wire (with Jerica Nicolaides), and Aengus Og. I sang with the Brazen Heads for a few songs.

The turnout was only fair, but still not bad for short notice. It was s sign of the spirit of the show that people hung out so late. It was a great show.

Keeping In Touch With Wales

Our members have many ways of keeping in touch with Wales and people all over the world who have connections with it. This month come ready to tell others how you do it. We have a wealth of resources to share with you including a fairly new Welsh-American networking web site: Americymru.ning.com
We will give demonstrations for your amazement.

Cheers, Mary
