--- SEAMUS MC CAFFREY PRESENTS CHECK TO ST. MARY’S FOOD BANK
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part of the St. Patrick’s Day program at Rosie McCaffrey’s was dedicated to raising money for charity.. On Mon May 11, Seamus McCaffrey presented a check for $10,000 to the St Mary’s Food Bank on behalf of the Irish community
St. Mary’s Food Bank has been one of the favorite charities of the Irish in Phoenix. Memories of the Great Hunger in Ireland in the 1840’s remind us of the crucial role of charities providing food that saved many thousands of lives. Groups like St. Mary’s Food Bank carry on that tradition.

Hello everyone! I'm excited to update you on the progress of the Grand Canyon Celtic Arts Academy. We have a website up and running with class descriptions, instructor biographies, a little bit about our mission, and a registration form. It is still in progress, but please do go and check it out:
www.GrandCanyonCelticArts.org
We are also accepting registrations for our first year. We are offering classes in fiddle, flute, whistle, tenor banjo, DADGAD guitar, and bodhran with three outstanding musicians from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Devin McCabe is teaching fiddle, Brett Lipshutz is teaching flute and whistle, and Randy Gosa is teaching guitar, banjo, and bodhran.
I have attached the registration form and another form for you to use. The Northern Arizona Celtic Heritage Society is extending their scholarship deadline for the Academy. If you are interested in attending, but funds are tight, fill out a form and they will be glad to help you out! Class sizes are going to be limited to 12 people, so reserve your place early. There will be on campus housing available, with information on that coming soon.
There are some evening activities (sessions) planned as well as the Northern Arizona Celtic Highland Festival the following weekend, so it will be a fun, music-filled week.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
On behalf of myself, and the other Board members, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to serve you. As many of you expressed at last night’s meeting (6 May 09), the IFA needs to reevaluate our purpose and direction. Our original purpose was to help create and establish an Irish Cultural Center, where the Irish community could gather in celebration and friendship. Thanks to the hard work and perseverance of the Irish community, we have The Irish Cultural Center. Last night, we heard many positives suggestions that have provided the Board with ideas for future endeavors, but we would like to hear from each of you. We hope that you will share with us your ideas on how we can continue to meet the needs of our IFA membership and community.
