------------------------------------------------------
--- SEISIUN NEWS
------------------------------------------------------

There was lighter than usual attendance at the Sunday seisiuns due to the Fibber seisiun campout. I haven’t heard all about it, but apparently there was some really, really cold weather up in Prescott. Cyndy said she didn’t choose to go camping because her idea of roughing it is going without room service.

The seisiunat Tim Finnegans was a bit smaller than recently, but anytime you have a seisiun with Jerica Leathers and John Good, it is always something special.

Drew and Sandy from Trotter’s Wake did some songs. I’ve been actively trying to recruit vocalists to this seisiun such as Colleen Collins of Highland Road. Manager/part owner Tommy Montgomery and bartender Noel O'Cualain who are also vocalists.

At the Bloomin’ Beerfest the available brews will originate with fifteen of Arizona’s top craft brewers. Bloomsday is celebrated throughout the world by Irish people and Joyce fans alike. The name “Bloomsday” derives from Leopold Bloom, the novel’s Jewish protagonist. He is accompanied, among others, by Stephen Dedalus, a young writer and Joyce’s alter ego; June 16 was the day in 1904 on which Ulysses was set. Music will be provided by the Chuckawalla Rhythm Kings from Yuma.

4. VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT FOR CHANNEL 8 PLEDGE DRIVE ON THUR JUNE 5

Hello Everyone, On the evening of June 5, a production of Celtic Thunder will be aired on our local PBS station, Channel 8. A few of the group members of Celtic Thunder are scheduled to be in the KAET studio during that time. KAET will be offering the pledge callers tickets to a future concert.

We think it would be fun to get a group of the Irish to volunteer for that evening. KAET will announce the name of our group on air as being volunteers in the studio.

DATE: Thursday, June 5, 2008
TIME: 5:45 - 10:00 pm
PLACE: KAET-TV studio on the Tempe campus of ASU
DINNER: Complimentary dinner is being provided by Fry's Marketplace.

Please respond by phone 480 946-5008.
Looking forward to volunteering with you.

Sincerely,
Anne

[EDITOR’S NOTE: Celtic Thunder is the brainchild of Sharon Browne and Phil Coulter. It is a collection of five male solo vocalists from wildly different backgrounds. I can find nothing to indicate they are schedule to play Arizona this year, but their American tour takes them to Utah and Colorado, so it is not out of the question they may add Arizona. www.celticthunder.ie]

5. ZOUKFEST JUNE 8 TO 14 SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO

We are very pleased to announce that Andy Irvine will be on staff at ZoukFest 2008 June 8 to 14 at the College of Santa Fe, New Mexico. www.zoukfest.com/

The days are filled with classes taught by our talented instructors. Evenings feature these same instructors in a relaxed performance setting as well as late night sessions and gatherings. There are many options for attendance at ZoukFest from staying on campus to attending one class only throughout the week. We do encourage everyone to take full advantage of everything ZoukFest has to offer by participating as much as possible. ZoukFest offers a unique musical community to everyone in attendance but particularly to those who are able to attend the entire week.

6. O'FLAHERTY IRISH MUSIC RETREAT IN TEXAS OCT 24 TO26

Hello, I am writing to see if there is any possibility that we can include a listing or mention on your online pages or other publications you may have. We host a three-day music camp called the O'Flaherty Irish Music Retreat where we teach traditional Irish music on fiddle, flute, harp, whistle, Uilleann pipes, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, tenor banjo, accordion, concertina, bodhran and piano.

We also have classes in singing in both Irish Gaelic and English and a large number of music enrichment classes.

Seven internationally-respected Irish players will join the teaching staff this year as guest instructors including Matt Cranitch and James Kelly on fiddle, Mick Moloney on tenor banjo, Mickey Dunne on Uilleann pipes, June McCormack on flute, Pat Egan on guitar and Danny O'Flaherty on singing ballads. The retreat will be held October 24-26, 2008 (always the last weekend in October) in Midlothian, Texas at a comfortable, scenic camp there.

For more information, please visit our website at
www.oflahertyretreat.org. The event is organized by the Traditional Irish Music Education Society, a non-profit group whose mission is "to assist and encourage people in their learning and playing of traditional Irish music through educational programs and performance events." If there is anything else we can do to promote this event, please let us know.

Thanks for your help!

Regards,
Ken Fleming
