5. MEMO FROM THE RAKES

Greetings George,

The Rakes will be performing Tues June 17th @ 8 pm at O Donohuges Pub as part of their St Practice day events where every 17th of the month is St Practice day.

We are also pleased to anounce that starting June 18 th, the Rakes will be performing every Wed at D’Arcy McGees at Tempe MarketPlace 8pm show. Jonathon Miller fiddler extrodianire will be performing along with myself as a duo on this series of shows. This is a great new venue in a very busy Mall so we hope for good crowds to expose them to traditional Irish music.

Also NightShift will be performing at McGees on the 28th of June and in addition to the Chief we have added new irish tunes to our songlist played by the full band, we are the only Irish/Blues Band in town: paying hommage to the Great Irish msuicians Blues like Rory Galleghar, and Van Morrison in our pursuit of great music with mass appeal.

“Irish tunes and Blues!!! Now that’s entertainment” Billy Brett

Thnaks for the support and we’ll see ya on the flipside

Cheers

Tommy Grills

9. FLAGSTAFF GAMES HIGHLIGHT THE SUMMER

--- ARIZONA HIGHLAND CELTIC FESTIVAL WEEKEND JULY 18 TO 20

Arizona gets hot in the summer, so it is no surprise to find that the biggest event of the summer is the Arizona Highland Celtic Festival, which is sometimes called “Flagstaff Celtic Festival”. The combination of an excellent program and cooler temperatures draws a lot of people from the desert.

The Festival itself is all day on Sat July 19 and Sun July 20 at

Foxglenn Park
4200 East Butler Avenue
Flagstaff, AZ 86004

Saturday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Sunday: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

They have Scottish athletics, pipe bands, clan tents, vendors, educational presentations, Reenactments, workshops, and a children’s area

Entertainment will include music by Alex Beaton, Wicked Tinkers, the Knockabouts, and Highland Ways.in addition to readings by Diana Gabaldon.

Related Events over the weekend are an another big part of the attraction:
• Friday Night: FREE Concert, Heritage Square, Downtown 6pm to 8pm
• Friday Night: Single Malt Whisky Tasting…8ish, (fee charged; must be over 21) Uptown Billiards, 114 North Leroux, Downtown
• Saturday Night: Single Malt Whisky Tasting at 7pm $25, (must be over 21), Charly’s in the Weatherford Hotel, 23 N. Leroux St. – Downtown
• Saturday Night: Celtic Ceilidh at 8pm…cover charge $5, Charly’s in the Weatherford Hotel, 23 N. Leroux St. – Downtown Most people continue to refer to it as the Flastaff Celtic Festival, but the title Arizona Highland Celtic Festival, is not inappropriate since it draws from the entire state.

Chandler Center for the Arts,
250 N. Arizona Avenue
Chandler, Arizona 85225
info@chandlercenter.org
480.782.2683

7:30 – 9:00pm, Saturday, July 26 th

Admission: Free!

Celtic duo Oceans Apart with special guests Jane Hilton (fiddle) and Ryan Bowman (percussion), in collaboration with The McTeggart Irish Dancers and The Phoenix Pipe Band , present an evening of Irish, Scottish, Welsh and North American traditional dance and music.

There have been increasing efforts over the past few years by national and local organizations such as the Irish Cultural Center, Welsh League of Arizona and area Caledonian and Celtic societies to involve the various ancient nations of the British Isles and Ireland in cooperative endeavors. The Trans-Celtic Gala is something of a milestone in this area. Attendees will be treated to Irish step dancing, Scottish pipe and drums, Welsh and American song (ancient, modern, thoughtful and hilarious), in a non-stop succession that will keep you wondering what will come next.
