Old and About
------------------------------------------------------
--- FIRST FRIDAY IS JULY 3, 2009
------------------------------------------------------
July's First Friday at the Center is scheduled for July 3, 2009.
Our featured artist is Ann Griffin. Ann Griffin grew up in a very rural area,in the far reaches of the North eastern United States, very near the Canadian border. Much of her youth was spent wandering the forests around her home. Regardless of the time of year, the contrasts of light and shadow drew her in and natures vulnerability kept her there. Even after nearly 20 years, nature is still her central focus. "Many days I feel overwhelmingly that I must vocalize in some way the tender needs that which surrounds us " Says Ann about her art. "We have such an amazing world; we need to continue taking steps to correct past mistakes and hopefully my paintings will encourage this."
July's dinner celebrates the United States Independence with beer bratwurst with kraut, Potato salad, cole slaw, macaroni salad. To top it all off red, white and blue berries and cream dessert. Join us for dinner, art and the ever popular Irish Cultural Center seisiun musicians.
There will be a seisiun as part of the program from 7:00 PM TO 9:00 PM

Paddy’s Peg Leg At Lis Doon Varna On Sat
Hey George,
Just wanted to let you know that Paddy's Peg Leg will be back at Lis Doon Varna this next Saturday, July 4th at 12:30 p.m. We will be playing a two hour set of Traditional Irish pub songs, rebel songs and ballads. We are now a four piece band as Dusty Powell has joined us to play tenor (four string) guitar and sing both lead and backing vocals. Dusty played out at Rawhide for many years. He joins, myself, Chris Floyd on guitar and vocals, Gene Paquette on whistles, and Jim Bidle on bodhran.
We are booked there for every Saturday through the month of July. It should be a lot of fun and I hope a lot of the Irish Community can come out and enjoy a nice lunch time show.
Thanks alot,
Chris

BIOGRAPHY
The Kilmoon Road - Ricko Donovan
Ricko Donovan has evolved into the consummate songwriter who plays a variety of stringed instruments. From humble beginnings in punk-oriented bands New Jersey, he drifted down to Baltimore and during the early 90s participated in a most memorable and exciting era for the music scene. Playing drums for alternative rock band The Last Few Days, he and his bandmates carved a niche for themselves and released records, most notable a vinyl 123 single Reality Jungle Dance. Ricko s backbeat provided the thunder for virtuoso British songwriter Richard Bannister s distinctive and thoughtful compositions. When the Baltimore scene s heyday began to dry up and The Last Few Days disbanded, Donovan headed further south for Nashville TN, retiring his drum kit for guitar, songwriting, and a new instrument- the hammered dulcimer.
“A rollercoaster ride…haunting and visceral, a powerful new voice in Irish folk.”
-Irish Music Magazine
“A skillfull master of a unique and beautiful instrument.”-Cormac MacConnell, Clare
FM Radio Ireland
“He renders Irish ballads with the greatest sensitivity and the rest with the reckless abandon of a steamrolling train with no brakes…”
– The Clare Champion
