1. OUT AND ABOUT

---   WELSH LEAGUE NEWS

Hi George,

Here is the latest from Welsh League.

Thanks, Mary Gilchrist

AUGUST MEETING
WELSH LEAGUE OF ARIZONA
SATURDAY, AUGUST 1ST, 2009
12 - 2 P.M.
FIBBER MAGEES RESTAURANT AND PUB
1989 WEST ELLIOT RD.
CHANDLER, AZ

Annual Pub Quiz

The Pub Quiz is one of our most spirited meetings of the year.  In keeping with Welsh tradition we hold it at a pub, where you can order from the menu - enjoy lunch and try your luck at the questions created by quizmaster supreme, Carwyn Edwards.  The quiz is multiple choice and full of quirky questions, giving everyone an equal (or nearly equal) chance to win or fail miserably. I have done both!

Go to the pub's web site: www.fibbermageespub.com for a look at their menu and driving directions. Then come and join us for a lighthearted afternoon.

Really a special event.
My name is Melissa Tatum and I recently moved to Tucson from Tulsa, where I organized a series of house concerts and music workshops. I am continuing that tradition in Arizona, and am coordinating workshops and lessons on Aug 26 and 27 with the members of Cara and 2duos. I've included the announcement below. Would it be possible to get the event listed on your calendar? Thanks! Melissa
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On August 26 and 27, 2009, the musicians who make up the bands Cara and 2duos will be teaching private lessons and workshops in Tucson. Private lessons are $40/hr and workshops are $30 each. For more information, or to register, contact Melissa at melissaltatum@yahoo.com or 520.275.3811. Please note these are not beginner workshops - students are expected to provide their own instruments and know how to play them. Whistles should be in the key of D.

Wednesday Aug 26 (Cara only): Private lessons available from 10am - 12:00noon and from 2:00-4:00pm on bodhran, fiddle, guitar, flute & whistle
Thursday Aug 27 (Cara + 2duos): private lessons and workshops

(Melissa, the contact phone number. 520 275 3811. Rountree Hall is at the corner of Helen and Mountain, one block north of Speedway. It is best, however, if people want to attend one of the workshops if they call early. If there is the demand, we can split some of the workshops into two different skill levels, but with a little advance notice.)

Thanks!
Melissa

In Tucson you can also expect Real Good Music agency with Pat, Maria and Aly and friends selling CDs, and also we will have our usual special choice of Celtic CDs that we collect on hand as a free gift for anyone buying two or more CDs or other offered merchandise as supplies last. Our "early bird" special is always fun, and you often find a new surprise artist's CD to enjoy for free.
