1. OUT AND ABOUT

------------------------------------------------------------------------
--- SEISIUN FOR FIRST FRIDAY THIS WEEKEND
------------------------------------------------------------------------

First Friday is on Aug 1, so it may have sneaked up on of us. As usual, there will be music, art work, and food at a great place to kick of the First Friday Art Walk from the Irish Cultural Center, 1106 N. Central Ave, Phoenix.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
--- IRISH MUSICIANS SAY GOODBYE TO MARNI
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many Irish musicians descended on the home of Marni Allen last Fri as we gathered to wish her family farewell as they left for Washington. Some who couldn’t make it wanted to add their farewells/
-------------------------------------------------------
Dear Marni, Brent and family -

I regretfully can't attend your farewell fiesta this evening, but I wanted to give you all some props before you head northward to the land of Seahawks and sleet.

I can think of no other family who has done more to cultivate our little community than you guys. You brought all sorts of random, wacky people together and created a family of musicians and friends that stretches all across this valley and beyond. I wish you all the best as you open a new chapter in Washington. Please keep in touch with Darrin's web-site and Fibberfolks.

Thanks for everything Marni and Brent and girls. Have a safe journey - see you in March, if not before.

--- TRANS CELTIC GALA A BIG HIT
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oceans Apart led a great show at a packed Chandler Center for Arts last Sat evening. Oceans Apart was joined by fiddle star Jane Hilton and percussionist Ryan Bowman. The show also included the McTeggart Dancers and the Phoenix Pipe Band.

After years of seeing Steve Colby and John Good perform, I had no doubt about their music. The key question was if they could put together a show that would work for a huge audience of people not familiar with Celtic music. The goal was to keep the audience’s attention. They pulled it off beautifully.

The show mixed in vocals with instrumentals, dancing, and pipers in a way that meant there was a lot of variety from start to finish. The show never dragged. The final piece included the band playing with the pipers while the entire dance troop danced.

Everyone should be congratulated on their part in putting together this show. It left a great impression.

--- ANYONE KNOW WHERE TO GET CONCERTINAS REPAIRED?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello All,

As I am not an expert in matters pertaining to the concertina, I thought I would put this question to the local Comhaltas membership. Does anyone have any leads as to who might be able to do a reliable repair on a concertina?

If you do, I'll pass on the info.

Thanks,
