2. GALWAY BRIDGE TOUR REPORT

Hi George!

Greetings from the road! We are in Wichita Falls on the final leg of our promotional tour for The Biffos' new CD, Suffering is Optional. We had a great time at Two Fools Tavern in Albuquerque, NM last week and are looking forward to playing there tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. Oklahoma City was interesting...

The highlight so far was playing at Davey's Uptown Rambler's Club in Kansas City, MO. It was the Wishbone Society showcase. We joined Richard Alwyn (Robyn's brother), Lara Ewen and local favorites, The Expassionates. The show was a great success. We performed our set of originals and had a chance to sit in with Richard and later with the entire Society.

Tonight we are playing at The Iron Horse Pub in Wichita Falls, TX. This authentic Irish pub is co-owned by Tipperary native, Danny Ahern, and John "Hammer" Dickinson from upstate New York. www.theironhorsepub.com Tomorrow we end our tour dates at the Two Fools Tavern www.2foolstavern.com We will send another update when we get back in town with pictures and other highlights.

Hope to see you at O'Connor's this weekend!

Slainte,
Brian & Robyn

Phrase of the Month
Pob Lwc!
Good Luck!

Annual "Pub" Quiz
Let's lighten up the "dog days" of summer. This is our month for the annual "Pub Quiz", a tradition in Welsh pubs. Creatively and mischievously compiled by Carwyn Edwards, it is multiple choice, lots of fun; and there will be prizes.
Pob lwc!

We met some more nice people at the Flagstaff festival and hope to see several at this meeting.

Celtic super group from Dublin and Galway, Ireland. Gráda has received a raft of awards and reviews that have propelled them into the elite circle of Irish super groups. Among their other excellent musicians, Gráda features Alan Doherty who is widely recognized as a lead soloist on flute and penny whistle on the Lord of the Rings movie soundtrack. "Gráda is not a household name in the USyet, but if this talented quintet appears anywhere within 100 miles of you, hi' thee hence..." Sing Out Magazine.

GRÁDA: IRISH BAND FEATURES LEAD PENNY WHISTLE SOLOIST FROM LORD OF THE RINGS MOVIE SOUNDTRACK

On Wednesday, August 22, Irish band, Gráda will perform at Sedona’s Future Studios. “Gráda is not a household name in the US – yet, but if this talented quintet appears anywhere within 100 miles of you, hi’ thee hence…” (Sing Out Magazine). Gráda, based in Dublin and Galway, Ireland, began playing together in 2001. The group draws from a wide range of influences, which has seen them working with Dave Hingerty (ex Frames drummer, now working a lot with Josh Ritter); Vyviene Long (cellist with Damien Rice); and, as a producer, Trevor Hutchinson (Lúnasa, Sharon Shannon, The Waterboys).

Gráda’s music is a mixture of traditional and contemporary Irish music (both songs and tunes). While most of their repertoire is made up of original compositions, the group also draws upon the vast well of traditional Irish music, as well as carefully chosen pieces from modern composers such as Diarmaid Moynihan, Jean Michelle Villion, Emer Maycock, Leo McCann, and Ronan O’Snodaigh, creating a broad artistic pallet.

Gráda is a talented quintet, featuring Alan Doherty, widely recognized as a lead soloist on flute and penny whistle on the Lord of the Rings movie soundtrack. The lovely female vocalist, bodhrán, fiddle, and whistles player, Nicola Joyce, comes from a long family line of musicians in Galway. Colin Farrell on fiddle and whistle, has performed and recorded with an array of great musicians in Europe and the USA, including the well-known group, Flook. Gerry Paul, on guitar and bouzouki, and Andrew Laking on double bass, vocals, and guitar, are the “engine room” behind Gráda. When not on tour, Andrew is in high demand as a session musician, having recorded for producers such as Bill Whelan, composer for Riverdance.

Cloudy Day Navigation is what Gráda calls their new album, and one way or another, each of the dozen tracks on this latest recording is about traveling, journeys or finding one's way. That's not surprising when you consider that the Irish band spent nearly eight of the last twelve months on the road. Grada just completed a stint across Ireland and is now touring North America throughout late summer. Don’t miss this opportunity to see Gráda, whose many recent awards and rave reviews have propelled them into the elite circle of Irish super groups.

Doors open at 7:30 P.M. show starts at 8:00 P.M Admission is $19 advance, $22 day of show. Future Studios is located at 30 Hozoni Drive in West Sedona (mailing address: P.O. Box 4779, Sedona, AZ 86340). www.futurestudios.org. For tickets and/or information call (928) 282-9139.

6. TANNAHILL WEAVERS COMES TO ARIZONA IN SEPT

RHYTHM & ROOTS and the TUCSON CELTIC FESTIVAL ASSOCIATON present

TANNAHILL WEAVERS – Traditional Music from Scotland

Benefit Concert for Tucson Celtic Festival Association

“the group has found an especially eloquent mixture of the old and the new.”
– New York Times

TUCSON – Rhythm & Roots in association with the Tucson Celtic Festival Association present Scotland’s Tannahill Weavers on Sunday, Sept. 16 at the Berger Performing Arts Center.

The Tannahill Weavers are one of Scotland's premier traditional bands. Their unique combination of traditional melodies on pipes, flute and fiddle, driving rhythms on guitar and bouzouki, and powerful three and four part vocal harmonies have taken the musical community by storm.

As Garrison Keillor, the host of A Prairie Home Companion, remarked, "These guys are a bunch of heroes every time they go on tour in the States". Sing Out! magazine proclaimed them "...as close to perfect as it gets."

“Scotland’s Tannahill Weavers play acoustic instruments, but the atmosphere at their shows is electric. The quintet is as tight and as versatile as any band in the Celtic music revival." - The Boston Globe
