1. OUT AND ABOUT

--- NEW 7:30 PM START TIME FOR ICC PROGRAMS

By popular demand, non-ceili programs will begin at 7:30 PM rather than the old 7:00 PM start. This will give people time to fight through traffic, grab some fast food, and still get to the center in time for one of our great programs. Ceilis will continue to start at 7:00 PM.

I have no idea when First Friday is supposed to start, but people keep coming earlier and earlier to be sure they can order before the food runs out.

--- BACK TO SCHOOL TEA TIME AT ICC ON SAT AFTERNOON

You are invited to The 3rd Annual Back to School Irish Tea at The Irish Cultural Center on Saturday August 26, 3:00 PM.

Join us for this Back To School Irish Tea benefiting the Irish Cultural Center.

This year's donation gift request:
Tea Spoons, Knives and Forks to complement your cups, saucers, teapots and linens donated in previous years.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
All-Ireland Senior Football Championship From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-Ireland_Senior_Football_Championship

For the Gaelic football All-Ireland Football Championship currently being held, see 2006 All-Ireland.

The Gaelic Athletic Association The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Bank of Ireland Football Championship) is the premier "knockout" competition in the game of Gaelic football played in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association and are played during the summer months with the All-Ireland Football Final being played on the third or fourth Sunday in September in Croke Park, Dublin. The prize for the winning team is the Sam Maguire Cup.

Every county in Ireland participates in the Championship so the competition is much more open than the Hurling Championship. The most dominant teams have always come from the provinces of Leinster and Munster. Kerry and Dublin are the most successful football teams. In recent years the Ulster football teams have begun to dominate the Championship with Armagh and Tyrone winning All-Ireland titles in recent years. Tyrone are the current All-Ireland Senior Football Champions.

4. KNUTE ROCKNE ALL AMERICAN MOVIE NIGHT ON FRI SEPT 8

602-258-0109 www.azirish.org
7:30 PM

The Irish Cultural Center will be presenting Mike Perkins on Notre Dame and Early 20th Century Irish america with the movie: "Knute Rockne All American".

In the first decades of the 20th century, few Irish Americans had an opportunity to go to college and were rarely welcomed even if they qualified. However, a small university in rural Indiana helped to create an interest in higher education while giving an outward expression of their Irish idenity. That school was Notre Dame and their football teams would be known as the Fighting Irish. Film historian Mike Perkins will explore the role of Notre Dame on America through the movie, "Knute Rockne All American" which would feature famous Irish Americans Pat O'Brien and Ronald Reagan. This 1940 classic helps us to understand the origins of Notre Dame mystique.

6. MORE ON OLD BLIND DOGS

[EDITOR'S NOTE: Old Blind Dogs have become favorites in Arizona and return to gigs in Flagstaff, Prescott, and Tucson.]

--- OLD BLIND DOGS - CLINE LIBRARY- FRI. SEPT 8

Who: Old Blind Dogs
Where: Cline Library Auditorium in Flagstaff
When: Friday, September 8, 2006 at 8:00pm
Presented By: Living Traditions Presentations
Number for Tickets: 928-523-5661

It's that time of year again...time for the Old Blind Dogs to come to Flagstaff and entertain audiences of all ages. This band has been a favorite since first coming here in 1993. The band has seen some personnel changes over the years, but has always retained that unique sound that is the Old Blind Dogs.

The Dogs have made a slight personnel change for this concert, with Jim Malcolm (lead vocals) leaving the band for personal reasons. Jonny Hardie (fiddle, founding member), Rory Campbell (pipes, whistles), Fraser Stone (percussion), and Aaron Jones (bass, bouzouki) have elected to keep the band as a four-piece, as it started originally 16 years ago. This change saddens those who love Jim, but will give the opportunity for Jonny, Aaron, and Rory to let us hear their singing voices. After hearing solo albums by all three, audiences are certainly in for a treat, as they always are when the Old Blind Dogs come to town.

The Old Blind Dogs are being presented by Living Traditions Presentations, who has brought you bands including Old Blind Dogs, Teada, Danu, Solas, and Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill. The concert will take place Friday, September 8, 2006 at 8:00pm with doors opening at 7:30pm. It will be held in the Cline Library Auditorium on the NAU Campus. Tickets are $20 with a $2 discount to members of Northern Arizona Irish Foundation, Northern Arizona Celtic Heritage Society, Flagstaff Friends of Traditional Music, seniors, and NAU Faculty and Staff. Children (17 and under), and NAU/CCC Students are $10. Tickets are available at NAU Central Ticketing (928-523-5661), Cedar Music (928-773-0799), Jitters Coffee (928-526-6964), and www.ticketmaster.com. For more information, please contact Kari Barton at 928-600-1365 or Kari@LivingTraditionsPresentations.com.

7. MEMO FROM THE RAKES - O'CONNOR'S THIS WEEKED

Hi George,

Just wanted to let you know that the "Rakes" will be playing this weekend at O'Connors Irish Pub this weekend. The band has changed and now has Malchom Harris on guitar and vocals. Malchom is a fantastic pub singer and we look forward to having him in the group. So we invite all lovers of Celtic ballads and Irish drinking songs to come out and enjoy the "Craic"

8. INDEPENDENT CELTIC PIPERS TO PERFORM AT THE COCONINO COUNTY FAIR ON SAT SEPT 3

Hi, George,

We'd like to invite everyone to see the Independent Celtic Pipers perform at the Coconino County Fair, at Fort Tuthill Fairgrounds in Flagstaff on Sunday, September 3. 9. MEMO FROM THE CHUCKAWALLA RHYTHM KINGS - LUTE'S ON FRI

The Chuckawalla Rhythm Kings have found a (fairly) regular gig at Lute's Casino. The crowds were excellent for our recent appearances there and Entertainment Manager Matt Lute-Weber has added us to the line up. See chuckawallaRK.com for dates. Matt is interested in promoting original music and would consider hiring groups from out of the area. Go to CRK's web site and visit the performance page for contact info. FYI, Lute's Casino is not a casino; It's a bar and grill with Minderbinders/Bum Steer decor, though the decor has grown, uh, organically over the last half century.

In an odd twist of fate, an Irish/folk band from Arizona is getting radio play in Alaska....with an Italian song. Yup, public radio station KCAW in Sitka has been spinning "Angelina" from CRK's first release. Fiddler Lori's college buddy Amy has a show and plays us regularly. If you've never experienced the performance video of "Angelina," recorded in the ladies loo of the Yuma Buffet Bar, visit the "Archives" page of CRK's site.

10. HARP CENTER NEWS

This is to let everyone know that I am now offering a "friendly used harp sales service". The benefit of this service (as an alternative to e-Bay) is that you can ask me questions about the harps, and I can advise sellers and buyers according to your specific needs. I can arrange for a used harp to be shipped from its seller to its new owner. Southwest residents may wish to consign at my studio. If you have a harp for sale, let me know!

There's plenty of opportunity for a cool drink in the saloon and shade is abundant, but the main stage is outdoors. So remember to bring lawn chairs, sunscreen, blankets, warm clothes for the evening and anything else you might need for an outdoor event.
