2. DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR ENTRIES FOR OLD PUEBLO FEIS OF SEPT 8 TO AUG 29
The Old Pueblo" is the official nickname for the city of Tucson, reflecting its early years as a fledgling border town in the wild west. The Irish equivalent for “old pueblo” or “old town,” translates into “séan baile”; and the spanish word for dance is "baile". Therefore, we invite to you all to join us at “Feis Séan Baile,” for an Irish day of dance with a Southwest theme.
We hope the care we have taken to organize our feis will enable all our guests to have a memorable and enjoyable experience here. Even though our feis is new, many of the committee members are the original innovative feis organizers from earlier years in Tucson, and have many years experience in running feiseanna.
*Just added - "Skips" Competition for new dancers. See Syllabus

3. TANNAHILL WEAVERS IN ARIZONA SEPT 15 AND 16
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tannahill Weavers – Traditional Music from Scotland
“the group has found an especially eloquent mixture of the old and the new.” TUCSON – Rhythm & Roots in association with the Tucson Celtic Festival Association present Scotland’s Tannahill Weavers on Sunday, Sept. 16 at the Berger Performing Arts Center.
The Tannahill Weavers are one of Scotland's premier traditional bands. Their unique combination of traditional melodies on pipes, flute and fiddle, driving rhythms on guitar and bouzouki, and powerful three and four part vocal harmonies have taken the musical community by storm.
As Garrison Keillor, the host of A Prairie Home Companion, remarked, "These guys are a bunch of heroes every time they go on tour in the States".
Sing Out! magazine proclaimed them "...as close to perfect as it gets."
“Scotland’s Tannahill Weavers play acoustic instruments, but the atmosphere at their shows is electric. The quintet is as tight and as versatile as any band in the Celtic music revival." - The Boston Globe

5. MEMO FROM THE KNOCKABOUTS
Hi George,
The Knockabouts had a great recording session and are ready to get back into the swing of things. The Knockabouts will be at the Flagstaff Arboretum Saturday, September 1st from 5:30 - 7PM and then at Charly's Pub that night starting at 9PM. Also, the Knockabouts will be performing again for the Coconino County Fair at Ft. Tuthill on Monday, September 3 at 1PM. I know it is hot in the valley, but we are sitting around 78 up here so it would be a good time to get out of the heat and enjoy the cool mountain air. For more info on the gigs, visit our website at www.knockabouts.org
Thanks
6. FUNDRAISER FOR ULTER PROJECT ON OCT 6
Dear George,
My name is Meg O'Neill Lofgren and I am on the board of the Tucson-Roscommon Sister Cities. I am hoping that you will add the following event to your newsletter. On October 6th, we are having a late afternoon shindig, that we are hoping will help raise funds for a theatrical production coming in early 2008. Some of the proceeds of this event will also benefit The Ulster Project of Tucson. The following Press Release includes a brief synopsis of the upcoming play, to give you and your readers an idea of what it will encompass. I thank you for your kind help.
Warmly,
Meg! O'Neill Lofgren
PRESS RELEASE:
A young Irishman leaves his home in Roscommon, Ireland, at age 16, never to return, destined to die without a family, at age 44, in faraway Mexico. In the interim he finds himself becoming one of the most important and distinguished Irish military men on the American Spanish Frontier in the eighteenth century. His name: Don Hugo O'Conor, Knight of the order of Calatrava, Colonel of infantry in His Majesty's armies and Commandant Inspector of the frontier posts of New Spain.
On a hot Arizona day in August 1775 Hugo (Hugh) O'Conor stood by the banks of the Santa Cruz and selected and marked out the spot, a place know as San Augustin del Tucson. This was his most lasting legacy: locating a new Presidio at San Augustin del Tucson on August 20, 1775. Today, the date is considered Tucson's birthday and O'Conor its illustrious founder.
Irish playwright and actress Caroilin Callery, of Roscommon, is writing and producing an ambitious and exciting new play covering the life and times of Hugo O'Conor. She has carried out extensive research into the Irishman's life and has recently spent several weeks in Southern Arizona searching out O'Conor facts. Ms. Callery firmly believes there is a great play in the complexity of the O'Conor character and in the era in which he lived. His story interlaces naturally with the story of the Spanish army, the Spanish Mission and the native Indians, in an interesting inter-cultural melting pot that has grown into the thriving city of Tucson today. This is not just a project to create a show for a short tour, but will be the creation of a piece of literature on a most interesting character for the historical canon of both Tucson and Ireland.
Written and produced in Roscommon, Ireland, the play will come to Tucson for a run in 2008, under the patronage of the Tucson-Roscommon Sister Cities. There are also plans to present the play at several schools in Tucson and our hope is that this will be an enriching adventure into the past for hundreds of children. We are also hoping to have the play presented in Phoenix. This should not be considered an exclusively Irish community event, but a Tucson and Arizona, multi-cultural opportunity to look back in time at our home, it's native people and the man from across the sea, who had a perhaps divine vision of what could be.
THE BENEFIT:
Date/Time: October 6, 2007 from 3 PM to 7 PM and Beyond.
Live Entertainment: Cheat the Hangman, the Hugh O'Conor Pipe Band, Tucson's Irish Troubadour-Mark Luther, Maestro Chris McGrory and the O'Shaugnessy Singers!
The Ceile will be called by Rosemary Browne, there will be Hor D'Oeurves and a few more surprises!
Come and Shake Your Shamrocks With Us!

9. BORU® VODKA PRESENTS “DEFEND THE BAR BAND” CONTEST
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks,
July 25, 2007, New York, NY – Castle Brands Inc. (AMEX: ROX) today announced that its flagship brand, Boru® Vodka, is launching its “Defend the Bar Band” US marketing program. The program’s focus is a web-based contest to find the most authentic and passionate bar band. Additional elements include a consumer “Defend the Fan” sweepstakes, and on-premise “Defend the Bar Band” Nights.
“Defend the Bar Band” is the second phase of Boru Vodka’s brand building program. The multi-tiered program begins with the search for the ultimate bar band. Boru Vodka gives unsigned bands a forum to stand up and play for what they believe in, their music. Up to fifteen bands will be selected from all the entries received and their original recordings will be featured on boru.com. The bands will compete for the opportunity to win a digital release deal with Roadrunner Records as well as $10,000 worth of new equipment from Musician’s Friend. Real-time, web-based consumer voting will narrow the field to four finalists. A combination of consumer voting and industry panel votes will determine the winning bar band. The judging panel is made up of industry and entertainment experts from Roadrunner Records, Blender.com, Musician’s Friend and Boru Vodka.
