--- ABOUT NOTRE DAME WITH THE VIDEO "KNUTE ROCKNE ALL AMERICAN" AT ICC ON FRI SEPT 8
7:30 PM $5 Admission
Last Saturday evening, Irish all over America watched the Notre Dame football team beat a very good Georgia Tech team. How did a college with only 8,260 undergraduates become a national if not international phenomenon?
During the early decades of the 20th century, the idea of the Irish going to college was not common. However, as this tiny college outside Chicago became a major football power, it had a huge impact on Irish America as they followed the team with unmatched passion. The movie "Knute Rockne, All American" gives a hint of just how big a deal Notre Dame as the movie stars famed Irish Americans Pat O'Brien and Ronald Reagan.

--- NO FEIS FEIS AT ICC ON SUN SEPT 10
2:00 PM $5 Admission
The Second Annual No Feis Feis is scheduled at the Irish Cultural Center located at 1106 N. Central in Phoenix on September 10th at 2:00 PM.
The No Feis Feis is a unique experience. It is an afternoon of fun-filled mock Irish dance competitions judged by the audience. You don't have to be an experienced dancer to join in the fun. You only need a little enthusiasm to give that mean high kick a go. If you feel like you have three left feet, that's okay too. Join us for the food, drink and judging.
Admission is $5 per person at the door. "Competitions" are $2 per dance, and your first two are free. Everyone is welcome!

--- GERRY O'BEIRNE AND ROSIE SHIPLEY AT ICC ON FRI, OCT 13
Fri. Oct 13 7:30 PM $15
Great singer/songwriter and guitar virtuoso Gerry O'Berine is joined by fiddle great Rosie Shipley. Here are some press quotes about Gerry O'Beirne
"Gerry O'Beirne has written some of the best new tunes to come out of Ireland's Celtic music scene. O'Beirne's guitar playing is always a thing of wonder and his lyrics have become increasingly poetic and emotionally deep."
- Dirty Linen
"The instrumentals are out of this world. A self taught master of the 6 and 12 string guitar, the playing of O'Beirne is superlative and subtle beyond words."
- The Sunday Times
"His works are simple, elegiac and exquisitely worded pen pictures of life's experiences."
- Rock 'N' Reel
"He's a lovely singer, a powerful performer and a master musician."
- Evening Herald
Rosie Shipley grew up in Baltimore, but spent her summers in eastern Canada where she mastered the Cape Breton style of fiddle playing and has performed all over the country.
3. UPDATE ON OLD BLIND DOGS
--- FRI., SEPT 8, FLAGSTAFF, CLINE LIBRARY
Who: Old Blind Dogs
Where: Cline Library Auditorium in Flagstaff
When: Friday, September 8, 2006 at 8:00pm
Presented By: Living Traditions Presentations
Number for Tickets: 928-523-5661
It's that time of year again...time for the Old Blind Dogs to come to Flagstaff and entertain audiences of all ages. This band has been a favorite since first coming here in 1993. The band has seen some personnel changes over the years, but has always retained that unique sound that is the Old Blind Dogs.
The Dogs have made a slight personnel change for this concert, with Jim Malcolm (lead vocals) leaving the band for personal reasons. Jonny Hardie (fiddle, founding member), Rory Campbell (pipes, whistles), Fraser Stone (percussion), and Aaron Jones (bass, bouzouki) have elected to keep the band as a four-piece, as it started originally 16 years ago. This change saddens those who love Jim, but will give the opportunity for Jonny, Aaron, and Rory to let us hear their singing voices. After hearing solo albums by all three, audiences are certainly in for a treat, as they always are when the Old Blind Dogs come to town.
The Old Blind Dogs are being presented by Living Traditions Presentations, who has brought you bands including Old Blind Dogs, Teada, Danu, Solas, and Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill. The concert will take place Friday, September 8, 2006 at 8:00pm with doors opening at 7:30pm. It will be held in the Cline Library Auditorium on the NAU Campus. Tickets are $20 with a $2 discount to members of Northern Arizona Irish Foundation, Northern Arizona Celtic Heritage Society, Flagstaff Friends of Traditional Music, seniors, and NAU Faculty and Staff. Children (17 and under), and NAU/CCC Students are $10. Tickets are available at NAU Central Ticketing (928-523-5661), Cedar Music (928-773-0799), Jitters Coffee (928-526-6964), and www.ticketmaster.com. For more information, please contact Kari Barton at 928-600-1365 or Kari@LivingTraditionsPresentations.com.

New Tucson Irish Dance School Led by Accomplished Dancer
Former World Championship medalist and 'Riverdance' lead opens Tucson-based Maguire Academy of Irish Dance
Tucson, AZ, August 2, 2006 - Yesterday was the first day of classes for the new Tucson-based Maguire Academy of Irish Dance. Headed by Darren Maguire, TCRG, the new school is currently offering classes for students aged from 4 through adult, at skill levels from absolute beginner to championship, at two studios in metro Tucson. The school's central Tucson classes are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the school's studio at 2921 E. Grant Road (Grant and Country Club). Northwest classes will be offered on Fridays at the 'Gotta Dance' studio at 4249 W. Ina Rd., beginning on August 25th.
Maguire relocated to Tucson to open the Maguire Academy after 'hanging up' his Riverdance shoes just this summer. Having danced with the world-renowned show for ten years, Maguire performed on many the world's most notable stages, including Radio City Music Hall, The Kremlin and the Great Hall of the People. During those travels, he managed to find the time to earn his TCRG-the certification required to teach competitive Irish dance under the rules of the Dublin, Ireland-based Irish Dancing Commission.
Maguire may have danced before he walked-his experience with Irish dance began early. He was born into a dancing family, as his parents, Kathleen and Michael Maguire, founded the highly-regarded Maguire O'Shea Academy of Irish Dance just outside London, England nearly thirty-five years ago. Maguire and each of his five siblings inherited the talent, and all have won major dance titles, the most recent being his youngest sister, Ellie, taking first place at the World Championships this past Spring. Darren's own championship record is long. Before joining Riverdance in 1996, he had earned first place at many regional and National competitions, including the Great Britains, All England, All Ireland and the Regional Oireachtas; and a second place in the World Championships.
"I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to teach dance in Tucson," said Maguire. "The Irish community here is immensely supportive-we're off to a brilliant start. I'm seeing lots of talent and enthusiasm, and look forward to developing the dancers, and the school."
For more information about the Maguire Academy of Irish Dance and classes or performances in Tucson, or to book a performance, contact Cathy Harris: englishcathy@cox.net or 881-5880.
7. NEW ACOUSTIC MUSIC VENUE ESTABLISHED
Hi George:
I have been busily preparing for opening night of a new acoustic music venue at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. The website info is: www.themusiccorner.org. Last Saturday was the opening night with an open house/open stage format. Admission and refreshments are on the house so folks can check it out. Signup sheets for both musicians and volunteers will be available. Please review the website so you know the who's, what's, why's, when's and where's. There is also a large hall available where we can schedule larger concerts.
Let me know what you think.
Carron Cruse
carronlee@yahoo.com
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE MUSIC CORNER - www.themusiccorner.org
After opening night, the venue will host two scheduled sets each Saturday evening with two breaks and a half hour of open stage in between. This is a trial scenario and will be reviewed regularly to see if a different pattern might work better. We welcome comments and suggestions by patrons and performers. The first set starts at 7:30 and ends at 8:15. Break from 8:15 til 8:30. Open stage is 8:30 til 9:00 with another break til 9:15. Second set is from 9:15 til 10:00.
The venue easily holds 50 seats as well as counter space and standing room and additional chairs can be added easily. The campus and parking lot are well lit and the room is easy to find. There will be signs at on 15th Avenue and on Maryland and you can follow the musical notes on any sidewalk to The Music Corner. The main entrance will be closed when the music starts and the side door will remain open at all times.
Admission to the general public will be $5 which will include two tickets for sodas or bottled water. Admission includes all the coffee you can drink. There will be a selection of sweets as well as healthier munchies for $1 each. Performers and volunteers will, of course, not pay admission. As with the set times, concession offerings will evolve as we hear about your preferences. Please don't hesitate to comment if there is something you would like to see differently.
There will also be a display table of selected items from the Fair Trade store. Items may be purchased by cash, check or credit card. We will have a volunteer available to assist anyone who would like more information on any item specifically or the Fair Trade program in general.
Booking can be done by e-mailing Carron Cruse at our e-mail button to the left, or calling (602)881-5951. You can book as far into the future as necessary to fit your schedule. A tip jar will be provided for each scheduled performer and assistance in selling CD's is available at the service counter. We can't offer a stipend to performers because the net profits of the Coffeehouse will be used to support a worthwhile project such as the Hunger Hurts organization.
Volunteers are needed to cover the service counter, admission table and the display table for the Fair Trade products. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer can sign up any Saturday evening or e-mailing or calling Carron as above. We are striving to make the volunteer experience as fun and entertaining as possible.

Milwaukee Irish Fest is known for bringing Ireland to the shores of Lake Michigan every third weekend in August. Now, it will also be known as Milwaukee's first festival to set out on the high seas. Celtic Cruisin' with Milwaukee Irish Fest will board the Norwegian Sun Cruise Ship from February 18 - 25, 2007, on the emerald waters of the Caribbean.
Everyone and anyone can reserve space on the ship. All who enjoy the August festival will be able to experience Irish Fest's trademark entertainment and a variety of other activities such as Irish workshops, dancing and music sessions. This week-long adventure will also allow guests to add a Western Caribbean flare to their Irish festivities by visiting the exotic ports of call including Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico, Belize City, Belize, and Santo Tomas Castillo, Guatemala.
"Irish Fest is more than a festival. It's a spirit and a tradition that continues to preserve the music and culture that is alive in our hearts all year 'round. Celtic Cruisin' with Milwaukee Irish Fest is an extension of that and great way for festival-goers to continue to enjoy the authentic Irish culture and entertainment that makes our event unique each year," said Chuck Ward, Irish Fest Entertainment Coordinator.
Sailing from Historic New Orleans, cruisers will enjoy the finest in Irish and Irish-American entertainment including: Danny Doyle, Grada, Schooner Fare, Green Fields of America, Seamus Kennedy, Seven Nations and Malachy McCourt.
"It's important that Irish Fest entertainment be the best whether it's being enjoyed on land or on water and the cruise's featured line-up reflects that ideal. Guests will not be disappointed with this vacation. It's a once-in-a-lifetime," Ward said.
Cruise prices from $1,295 for an outside cabin and based on double occupancy. Cost includes cruise, all meals and Irish entertainment, transfers and port taxes. Reservations are limited. Take advantage of the early booking bonus that extends shipboard credit to all reservations with names and full deposits by June 13, 2006, a credit of $50 per cabin for Oceanview and $75 per cabin for Balcony.
