Oh yes! There will be activities for young Celts in their own special area.
Festival Director Dorothy O’Brien stated, “Our greater Sedona area is host to millions of visitors and our residents have a great desire to provide interesting, cultural activities that enrich and enlighten themselves and our guests. Arizona is home to some of the finest musicians and dancers, poets and storytellers of Celtic origin. What a privilege to showcase this rich heritage right here in Sedona!”

5 U2 TO PLAY AT U OF PHOENIX STADIUM
ON TUE OCT 20
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Taken from “U2 kicks off American 360 Tour with stunning Chicago show”
http://www.irishcentral.com/opinion/col/kellyscorner/U2-kicks-off-American-360-Tour-with-stunning-Chicago-show-59219022.html
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
U2 kicked off the American leg of their worldwide 360 tour in some style in
Chicago Saturday night.
Critics from Chicago Tribune to the LA Times to Rolling Stone swooned as Bono
and co played their first stadium concert in 12 years.
And it's a very different stadium tour.
In 1997, the band played to half empty-stadiums and dreadful reviews with the
awful Popmart tour.
Speaking at the time, a despondent Bono said, "If we come back again I
think it’s going to be something very different."
Well, whatever you think of the Claw's carbon footprint, it's certainly different
and the fans in Soldier Field loved it just as much as the Europeans have done.
Bono said he was "delighted" to open the American tour in the "heart
of America." (Well we think it's New York Bono but there you are!)
Anyway, Bono told the crowd that Chicago's skyline owed no small part to the
Irish saying, "We're the wind in the Windy City."
The band, who were supported by Snow Patrol, took the stage at 8:40 p.m. and
played for just over two hours - till 10:50 p.m.
For those of you holding tickets for the American dates, the full set list is
below.
What would you like to hear?
It's a great set list for long-time fans like me but I'm still holding out for
"One Tree Hill," as I've never heard it live.
And any chance of "I Will Follow"?!
"Breathe"
"No Line on the Horizon"
"Get On Your Boots"
"Magnificent"
"Beautiful Day"
"Elevation"
"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For"
"Stuck In a Moment You Can't Get Out Of"
"Unknown Caller"
"The Unforgettable Fire"
"City of Blinding Lights"
"I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight (Redanka remix)"
"Sunday Bloody Sunday"
"Pride (In the Name of Love)"
"MLK"
"Walk On"
"Where The Streets Have No Name"
(encore)
"One"
"Bad"
(encore)
"Ultraviolet (Light My Way)"
"With or Without You"
"Moment of Surrender"
"Halfway to St.Patricks's Day"
Uptown Billiards, Sept.18
It's that time of year again so grab your drinking head, get your liver cleaned
up and head on down to Uptown Billiards. The Knockabouts started this celebration
six years ago and it is still one of the rowdiest parties of the year in Flag.
Of course, Uptown Billiards is hosting the event and that means one helluva
party! There is a rumor of a whiskey tasting and limerick slam before the music
starts.
For more info about the pre-music events, click on the flag.
Music starts at 9PM and there is NO COVER
Get your new K'bouts shirt!
The newest look in K'bouts attire will be on sale at the "halfway"
party. It is a special edition shirt with a limited number available. If you
wear any Knockabouts gear to the September 18th gig, you will get a discount
on this new shirt. I won't show you the design now, but it is pretty cool.
We can't tell you how much we enjoy seeing our friends at gigs. There were so
many of you at the County Fair that came up to talk to us and tell us how much
you liked the music. Thanks again for all your support.
Slainte,
John, Jacquie, Ron, Kari and Tim

Celtic Dance Academy Presents:
The Irish Nutcracker
December 19th 7:00 PM
December 20th 2:00 PM
Mesa Arts Center
A magician with secrets, an enchanted gift, a battle with the Mouse Queen, a
magical adventure through the land of Tir Na Nog where fairies, flowers and
gypsies dance to Irish tunes: it must be the Irish Nutcracker. Join Clare as
she experiences the classic holiday Christmas story the Irish way.
The Irish Nutcracker returns to Phoenix in 2009 to celebrate its fifth anniversary after four years of standing room only crowds. New features this year are LIVE music performed by a local Irish band and a new, larger venue to accommodate the high level of interest in this exciting holiday production.
The Irish dance drama is based on the classic ballet and holiday story. All of the performers are students of the Celtic Dance Academy. The show includes performers of all ages and abilities.
Come and start your holidays off on a festive Irish note by joining us for
the Irish Nutcracker.
Tickets will be available through the Mesa Arts Center box office.

Yonatan Miller:
We are declaring October to be singer/songwriter month (at least in our household!).
We are thrilled and privileged to host two international award-winning singer/songwriters
for house concerts in October. As you may already know, we are hosting Jim Malcolm
on Saturday, October 31. We have just learned that Robbie O'Connell will be
coming through Tucson on October 15 and have been able to arrange a rare opportunity
to see him perform at a house concert. Please feel free to share this information
with anyone who might be interested. I've also attached a flyer you are free
to forward and share.
If you are unfamiliar with house concerts, they have re-emerged over the past
5-10 years as a great venue for independent singer-songwriters. These are entertainers
who can expect to fill a 150-200 seat auditorium, but who find that after fees
are taken out for renting the hall and the sound system, as well as other miscellaneous
expenses, they make less money than they do performing for 40 people in someone's
living room. The result is that both the performer and the audience get the
benefit of a more intimate venue and the audience gets to mingle with the performer
at intermission and after the concert. House concerts are thus essentially private
parties organized as a concert. Since they are private parties, there is no
ticket price, but we do ask for a donation, 100% of which goes to the entertainer.
--- THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15, 7PM - ROBBIE O'CONNELL
Robbie O'Connell was born in Waterford, Ireland and grew up in Carrick-on-Suir,
County Tipperary, although he is now based in the United States. Robbie recorded
several albums with the Clancy Brothers, and currently tours both on his own
and with his cousins Aoife Clancy and Donal Clancy. He has performed at Carnegie
Hall with the Clancy Brothers and was also seen by an estimated 500 million
people worldwide on the telecast of a live tribute to Bob Dylan at Madison Square
Garden, a performance which Rolling Stone magazine described as "breathtaking."
Reviewers have described Robbie as a "national treasure" and as "man
blessed with an enviable turn of phrase and a gift for melody bestowed on only
the few." A master of songs ranging from heart-breakingly to humorous,
Robbie O'Connell is a marvelous entertainer and you won't want to miss this
opportunity to see him in person in an intimate setting. You can find samples
of Robbie's singing on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN2s0J3Y8mc
and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnHn8jWUTIM
--- SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31, 8PM - JIM MALCOLM
For those of you unfamiliar with Jim Malcolm, he is an internationally award-winning
Scottish folk singer and songwriter. In addition to his successful solo career,
he also spent several years as the lead singer of the Scottish group Old Blind
Dogs. Jim Malcolm has been described as "without any doubt, one of the
best singers and most gifted songwriters to be found today on the Scottish folk
scene," and as possessing "transcendent brilliance in songwriting
and musicianship." One reviewer summed up his performance by saying "Jim
Malcolm will just melt you in your seat." This year marks the 250th birthday
of Robert Burns, and Jim has a wonderful, witty evening of Scottish songs and
stories planned. Because the concert is on Halloween, we are encouraging (but
not requiring!) costumes. We'll award a free Jim Malcolm CD to the best dressed.
Jim's website (including sample tracks of his work) is at www.jimmalcolm.com
and he has a music video on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p-gJou3b80k
and there's also some decent quality video shot at the Kansas City Irish Fest
at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdDJhA7m5Zg&feature=related
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Both concerts will be at our home in Tucson, which is just north of River between
1st and Campbell. We are asking for a donation of $15 per person for each concert,
or $25 per person for both concerts. For more information, or to make a reservation,
contact me (Melissa Tatum) at melissaltatum@yahoo.com or 520-275-3811. Reservations
are required, so that we have an accurate headcount and can ensure there is
a seat for everyone. We also request that you please give us 48 hours notice
if you are unable to attend, which will allow us to notify any people on the
waitlist of the opportunity to attend the concert.
11. MEMO FROM THE CHUCKAWALL RHYTHM
