1. OUT AND ABOUT
--- FOUNDATION GATE DEDICATION ON OCT 21
The Irish Foundation of Arizona Gate at the Irish Cultural Center is finally a reality. And it is Beautiful! There are many people to thank for their efforts in making this possible: Pat Mc Morrow who had the original idea to use the symbols of the Shields of the Four Provinces; Paul Ahern, the architect of the ICC, who designed the Gate and worked closely with the contractors; Jimmy O'Connor and his staff who hosted a fun filled fundraiser at O'Connor's Pub in June; Joe Ondyak and his crew at Artistic Iron Design who builT and installed the Gate; and everyone who made a contribution toward the project.
To celebrate this wonderful event, there will be a Dedication and Ribbon Cutting ceremony at the Center at 1106 N. Central on Sunday, October 21, 2007.
This will be in conjunction with the Fall Picnic which will run from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Everyone is invited to attend and bring their favorite side dish, salad or dessert. $5.00 will cover the cost of the hot dogs and hamburgers. Kids under 12 are admitted free and there will be fun activities for them. Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments and join in the seisun.
There will be another exciting silent auction with several photographs of Ireland. Contributions to the auction may be brought the day of the picnic or dropped off at the ICC beforehand. We will also be selling our new baseball caps and visors sporting the American and Irish
Flags.
So mark your calendars for October 21 and join us in celebrating the completition of another important part of the Irish Cultural Center and enjoying a lovely Fall day with friends and family.

3. LIEUTENANT OF INISHMORE BY MARTIN MCDONAGH CONTINUES FOR TWO MORE WEEKS
Sept. 14-30 at the Herberger Theater Center
Monty Python meets Quentin Tarantino in a brazen and unapologetic black comedy presented by Actors Theatre. The Lieutenant of Inishmore tells of a ruthless Irish Liberation Army enforcer and the one thing he loves more than anything in the world . . . his little black cat, Wee Thomas.
Hailed for its hysterically funny dialogue plus outlandish violence and bloodshed on stage, this play was described in the New York Times as "appallingly entertaining." "Play-going doesn't get any better than this." (Wall Street Journal). Please note this play contains mature themes and adult language and violence that may be disturbing.
Directed by Actors Theatre's Producing Artistic Director Matthew Wiener, the cast includes: Oliver Wadsworth as Padraic; David Vining as Donny; Tim Shawver as Davey; Kerry McCue as Mairead; David McCormick as James; Beau Heckman as Christy; Cale Epps as Brendan and Colin McFadden as Joey.
Single tickets are on sale starting August 1. Prices range from $20 to $45. Visit www.actorstheatrePHX.org to purchase tickets online or call the Herberger Box Office, 602-252-8497 Mon-Fri, 10am to 5 pm. Plus $6 savings off each regular price adult ticket for groups of 6 to 14 people and $10 off for groups of 15 or more. Season ticket packages and Flex Passes are also available.
Actors Theatre, a 22-year old not-for-profit professional theatre company, presents progressive and provocative plays celebrating the unique power of live performances to engage and inspire our audiences. Actors Theatre is a resident company of the Herberger Theater Center in downtown Phoenix. Actors Theatre. Off Broadway – Just Downtown. www.actorstheatrePHX.org.
[EDITOR’S NOTE: Char Marquart’s seisiun players will play on Thur and Fri with Black Velvet Band playing on Sat and Sun afternoon]

--- DRACULA - 10/05/2007 - 10/27/2007
"I want your fear. For your fear renders your veins rich and full. Your fear hemorrhages deliciously within you." This adaptation restores the suspense and seduction of Bram Stoker's classic novel. As Count Dracula begins to exert his will upon the residents of London, they try to piece together the clues of his appearances.
Author Bram Stoker was born in Dublin in 1847. He graduated from Trinity College and progressed from writing reviews, to stories and novels. While none of his other work was nearly as successful as Dracula, he made a good living with his writing an emphasis on horror.
Stoker is not usually listed in the Pantheon of the great Irish writers of the late 19th century, but his impact on literature can hardly be overlooked.
--- THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST - 01/11/2008 - 01/26/2008
No one defines Irish writers of the late 19th century like Oscar Wilde. His wit and literary style still makes him one of the most quoted authors of his era. “The Importance of Being Earnest” remains one of his most popular works as well as one of his funniest.
--- PETER PAN - 05/02/2008 - 05/25/2008
One of the most popular stories in literature, Peter Pan was written by Scottish born J.M. Barrie. His stories were based on the fantasy life he developed during his unhappy experience at Dumfries Academy in Dumfries in southwest Scotland.

6. PHOENIX FAERIE FESTIVAL FUND RAISER
Saturday, October 13, 2007
PHOENIX, AZ. (September 10, 2007) – Last April, Western Gates Faerie Realms presented the first ever Phoenix Faerie Festival, a magical weekend celebrating the mischievous spirits of nature, in Queen Creek. To continue the tradition, Soul Invictus Gallery & Cabaret will host a fundraiser, featuring many of the acts and artists from the Festival in a downtown setting. The hope is to raise awareness of this unique family event, while at the same time, raising funds to ensure its continued success.
"The Phoenix Faerie Festival has quickly become an awesome collaboration of passionate Arizona faerie fans of all ages and from all walks of life," says Festival Coordinator Rowan Wakefield. "The festival offers something a little bit different; a taste of folklore and faerie magic that crosses over the restrictive boundaries of historical recreation and into a lighthearted realm of wonder and enchantment where anything is possible. The October fundraiser is an effort to make certain that the magic continues, by presenting just a sampling of the delights to come on our annual evolution from daydream to reality."
Slated to take the stage for this fun family event will be Anaya Tribal Dance, Joe Bethancourt, Zina Bint-Badia, Wyllow Ravenscroft, Oceans Apart, Epona, Stage 6 Productions Fire Art for the Urban Masses and more! Also included will be a Fantasy artist exhibit, the mechanized mayhem of Greathouse Labs, a Mermaid’s Lagoon, Costumed Revelers, Door Prizes, a Raffle and Auction and plenty of other fantastical surprises. Visit www.westerngatesfaerierealms.com for the full line-up.

9. PHOENIX GAELS – 2007 NORTH AMERICAN JUNIOR D CHAMPIONS
In an historic weekend for the club, the Phoenix Gaels captured its first ever silverware by winning the North American
Junior D championship, defeating St Louis in the final having accounted for Denver Gaels in the semi-final.
This was a great win for the club and is the culmination of a year’s hard effort on top of 7 years of past efforts (and heartbreak!!).
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Jason for the huge effort he put in this year to get us to the pinnacle and bring the trophy back to Phoenix. Special thanks also to Deidre and Shiel for training the team in previous years. Thanks also to the committee, past and present, so Chris, Gerry B, Preston, Owen, Denis (Evans), Joe, Pado (and all the people involved before my time) take a bow, you deserve it. Thanks also to players who soldiered with us in past years but didn’t make it this year such as Johnny Mac, Marty, Rick and others in years gone by.
Thanks also to our sponsors The Dubliner, Rula Bula, Paudge, and Brainstormer.
Here are the match reports
NACB Junior D semi Final: Phoenix Gaels 1-11 (14 points), Denver Gaels 2-7 (13 points)
Scorers: Ronan Kelly 1-4, Dave Kleinman 0-3, Mick Richardson 0-3, Shiel Costello 0-1
NACB Junior D Final: Phoenix Gaels 2-13 (19 points), St. Louis 2-2 (8 points)
