--- OCTOBER HOUSE CONCERTS IN TUCSON - The Best of Irish and Scottish Singer/Songwriters:

These two concerts are opportunities to see top international performers in an intimate venue that seats 45 people. Both concerts will be at our home in Tucson, which is just north of River between 1st and Campbell. We are asking for a donation of $15 per person for each concert, or $25 per person for both concerts. For more information, or to make a reservation, contact Melissa at melissaltatum@yahoo.com or 520-275-3811. Because of the limited seating, reservations are required, and we do encourage you to make your reservation early.

--- THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15, 7PM - ROBBIE O'CONNELL
Robbie O'Connell, who has toured with the Clancy Brothers and with Mick Moloney, is stopping in Tucson as part of a solo tour. Reviewers have described Robbie as a "national treasure" and as "man blessed with an enviable turn of phrase and a gift for melody bestowed on only the few." A master of songs ranging from heart-breakingly to humorous, Robbie O'Connell is a marvelous entertainer and you won't want to miss this opportunity to see him in person in an intimate setting.

--- SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31, 8PM - JIM MALCOLM
Jim Malcolm, internationally award-winning Scottish folk singer and songwriter has been described as "without any doubt, one of the best singers and most gifted songwriters to be found today on the Scottish folk scene," and as possessing "transcendent brilliance in songwriting and musicianship." This year marks the 250th birthday of Robert Burns, and Jim has a wonderful, witty evening of Scottish songs and stories planned. Because the concert is on Halloween, we are encouraging (but not requiring!) costumes. We'll award a free Jim Malcolm CD to the best dressed.

7. MEMO FROM TONY NORRIS

Dear George ,

The first crisp hints of autumn grace the morning air. Sue's garden still produces a bounty tho' the sweet corn is all gone. We butchered a hog a couple of weeks ago and have a freezer stocked with country and Italian sausage, liverwurst, pork chops, bacon and ham. My son Jake came down from Denver and friend Michael Ericksen from Sierra Vista to help with that project.

The hens are laying their multi-colored eggs. The Japanese black banty hen "stole a nest" in the weeds and hatched one little black bumble bee size chick. We've caught two [count 'em--two] skunks in the henhouse in a weeks time. They are both scenting the breeze that blows on a far shore now.

Grandaughters Emma and Keeley are participating in Young Jammers where they are learning fiddle and mandolin. Kari Joy took first place all around champion at her first gymnastic competition last week.

It's time for the annual Flagstaff Bluegrass Festival. My friend Sid Hausman of Tesuque, Nm will help me kick off the festival with a program of cowboy and Southwest songs at 12:30 pm on Friday. At 5pm I do a kids show at the Yavapai Ramada Kids Stage. On Sat morning at 11 Sid will lead a Western Swing Uke workshop at the Ponderosa stage in the commercial Bldg. On Sunday I am your Emcee and host from 9-5. Bring a blanket and lawn chairs and enjoy a weekend of live music at the Pines Amphitheater at Ft Tuthill, Flagstaff. Check out website for details and schedule: www.pickininthepines.org .

You can catch me at Bookmans with Bill Burke and The Springfed band on the following dates:

Sunday Sept 27 3-5
Friday Oct 2 4-6
Sunday Oct 18 2-4

I'll be In Prescott for the 31st Sharlot Hall Folk Festival Oct 3-4th--10am-5pm. Details: http://www.sharlot.org . I'll be playing solo, w/Bill Burke and Fred Coon and leading the gospel sing on Sunday morning.

Oct 9-11 will find me at the Lincoln County Cowboy Symposium in Ruidoso, Nm with Sid Hausman.

You can read my current Letter From Home column "Solar in a Jar" in FLAGLIVE at: http://www.flaglive.com/flagstafflive_story.cfm?id=203463 [select columns " Letter From Home"]

Y'all be well and don't get caught by the failing light.
Love,
Tony

8. MEMO FROM THE DUSTY BUSKERS

Members: Fiddlin' Uncle Phoenix; Dusty Squirrelfisher; Cousin Dylan Charles

> PLAY SONGS > SHARE SONGS

Three-time TAMMIES (Tucson Area Music Awards) winners The Dusty Buskers, perhaps the most unique item to emerge from the Sonoran Desert since the crested saguaro, proudly announce the release of their second self-produced album – “A Hypomanic Evening With…” on Old Bisbee Records, Southern Arizona’s “beatific” record label of Western medicinal music.

The rowdy and raucous-sounding CD was recorded live from Studio 2A by KXCI 91.3 FM’s own Ginger Doran and mastered by Stuart Oliver of Old Bisbee Records. “A Hypomanic Evening With…” features ten tracks of the Dusty Buskers’ signature fast-paced, high-energy versions of bluegrass, Celtic folk and old-timey Americana tunes, with an 80s punk twist or two.

The blisteringly unbridled album perfectly captures the soul of the Dusty Buskers’ “beat up from the street up” anarchic spirit and the flavor of their systematically maniacal attack on traditional music. Fans of the band will not be disappointed. Newcomers will be enthralled.

Having won the hearts of audiences in Tucson’s saloons, taverns and cafes; captured the attention of passersby in backyards and on street corners in Tombstone, Willcox and Arivaca; performed in nightclubs in Austin, Phoenix and Bisbee; and frolicked at venues in Silver City and Truth or Consequences, NM, the Dusty Buskers have defied the odds, overcome their personal struggles and shrugged away their inner demons to present the world with their happy-go-lucky, idiosyncratically melodic and infectious music. The Dusty Buskers is an act not to be missed.

“A Hypomanic Evening With…” showcases the band’s 2008 three-man lineup of core members Fiddlin’ Uncle Phoenix and Dusty Squirrelfisher joined by washboard player The Mighty Joel Ford of local act The El Camino Royales. The Buskers’ current lineup includes singer/songwriter and music teacher Dylan Charles on mandolin.

The Dusty Buskers have shared the stage and held it down with notable national acts such as Great American Taxi, The Devil Makes Three, The Weary Boys, Leslie and the Badgers, Green Mountain Grass and James Intveld.

The CD release party for “A Hypomanic Evening With…” will be held at Che’s Lounge, 346 N. Fourth Ave. in Tucson, AZ on Saturday, September 26th beginning at 10:30 pm. The Dusty Buskers will be performing with a member of New Mexico’s Silver City String Beans on washboard. The event is 21+ only and free of charge. The venue can be reached at (520) 623-2088.
