1. OUT AND ABOUT
--- FIRST FRIDAY IS OCTOBER 2
Its time to cool down with some of the best Irish tunes, art, food and libations
at the Center. Start your tour of First Friday hot spots at the Center with
dinner and our special Irish sesiun musicians.
This month's menu from Chef Hand is a green salad with a herb chicken and wild rice pilaf, topped off with bread pudding.
October's featured artist is Heather J. Kirk. Ms. Heather J. Kirk grew up in the Chicago suburb of Park Ridge, and as soon as the snow allowed, fled for the warmth of Scottsdale, Arizona, again choosing the convenience of a big city, with the benefits of a family friendly neighborhood.
Ms. Kirk works as a fine art photographer, digital artist, writer and graphic designer. Her work has shown in Art Institute and Gallery of Salisbury, Maryland; dana Gallery in Montana, Gammage Auditorium (Arizona State University), and Herberger Theater and @Central Gallery in Phoenix.
Her writings have been published in Chicken Soup for the Latino Soul, The Bible Advocate, Inglis House Anthology of Disabilities, and Bibliophilos and Dragonfire. Heather’s book of poetry We ... a spirit seeking harmony for a world that’s out of sync takes the reader on a faith journey from pain and loss, to hope and purpose.
Ms. Kirk’s book and photography can be found at www.HeatherJKirk.com, or you can contact her at HJKirk@juno.com.

Thursday, October 1st @ 6:00pm, Tubac Twilight Concert Series presents “GiveWay”
a lively and entertaining Celtic band all the way from the green rolling hills
of Scotland! Since coming together in 1998 “GiveWay” has been meteoric!
In the short time since the girls chose the name GiveWay (on their way to a
gig and after passing numerous Give Way road signs!) they have rocketed onwards
and upwards with much enthusiasm from listeners all around the UK, Europe, and
the USA. The group is comprised of four sisters from Scotland with beautiful
vocals, Celtic fiddle, guitar, whistles, accordion, and drums. “GiveWay”
plays a delightful mixture of Scottish traditional music and haunting airs,
to lively jigs and energetic reels.
After playing in competitions and clubs all over the UK, “GiveWay”
got their real break when they won a prestigious 'Danny Award' at Celtic Connections
in 2001. Later the same year the band was placed first in the BBC Radio 'Young
Folk Awards'. “GiveWay” was also invited to take part in the BBC
1 "Hogmanay Live" television show, sharing the stage with a host of
big artists, including pals Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain. They’ve performed
on numerous radio/television shows as well.
From an early age, music was at the heart of all the sisters did; at five years
old, Fiona started playing the fiddle, Kirsty picked up an accordion at four,
Amy started on the accordion at five later switching to drums at age thirteen,
and Mairi was playing keyboards at the age of six. “GiveWay” encompasses
youthful vibrancy, lively confidence and skilled talent - an inspired combination
indeed!
This young all-female band can belt out some thunderous sounds, yet just as
easily slip into something gentle and very comforting. On tour in the US, the
four Scots sisters have thrown off their precocious child folkie tag and are
rapidly turning into a Scottish sensation. Get ready to slip into your dancing
shoes, for this is one sizzling group you surely won’t want to miss!

Tramor (Overseas) is the new traditional music project of John Good. John is
well known through out the West, South, Midwest and in his native Wales as a

name of Patty Boyle McCrossan in recognition of your contribution to the Irish
community in Phoenix AZ. Patty with her husband Pat owned and operated the Irish
store “Ireland Own” for a number of years. Patty was cheerful, helpful,
and knowledgeable of all aspects of Irish culture whether it was music or history.
Patty was always ready to help people or animals in any way possible. Her contributions

to Irish heritage students at the Irish Cultural Center for music lessons provided
by her husband Pat McCrossan in keeping with the
Irish Cultural Center’s statement as a learning center.
Administration
The Patty Boyle McCrossan Musical Scholarship will provide $100.00 per semester for two students of Irish heritage that could not attend these lessons otherwise due to financial hardship. The lessons are to be provided solely by Pat McCrossan as their teacher.
This scholarship is funded completely by the treasury of the Irish Crafters
Group
for seven semesters for two deserving students. Students will provide to Pat
McCrossan an application showing their Irish heritage and financial need. The
committee members will review with Pat the applications and select two deserving
