--- FRI, OCT 13 - GERRY O'BIERNE AND ROSIE SHIPLEY
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Friday, October 13, 2006, The Center will be presenting Gerry O'Beirne and Rosie Shipley who have individually impressive resumes, but together are a phenomenon. Tickets are only $15.
GERRY O'BEIRNE of County Clare is a well know singer/song writer but is perhaps even more famous as one of the top guitar players anywhere. A native of Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland, Gerry O'Beirne is a self-taught master of the 6 and 12 string guitars and an inspired singer/songwriter. Whether performing solo or with other artists, his unique musical stylings and poignant original songs coupled with a passionate love of the music draw his audience into an intimate circle in the largest concert hall or the smallest pub. Gerry has appeared on NPR's Garrison Keillor's "A Prairie Home Companion" radio show. Besides working with Andy M Stewart, Gerry O'Beirne performs with Patrick Street and has toured with the Sharon Shannon Band, The Waterboys, Martin Hayes, Kevin Burke and Andy Irvine. He has performed at the White House, opened for the Grateful Dead, and played electric guitar with Marianne Faithfull. He recently contributed to albums by Paul Brady in Nashville and back in Ireland with traditional singer Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh who beautifully sang two of Gerry's songs on her new solo album, Western Highway and The Isle of Malachy.
ROSIE SHIPLEY grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, surrounded by traditional Irish music and dance, and in rural Nova Scotia, Canada, home of the famous Cape Breton-style of Scottish traditional fiddle playing. Rosie had her first violin lesson at age three and, when she was eight, began to learn traditional tunes from fiddler Brendan Mulvilhill. Along with her brothers, Rosie spent a portion of her summers when she was a teenager in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, at the Gaelic College of Celtic Arts and Crafts where she studied fiddle with Sandy MacIntyre and piano with Ryan MacNeill. Rosie has toured with The Willow Band (with Gerry O'Beirne and EJ Jones) and as a guest with Cherish the Ladies. Today, she tours with singer-songwriter Gerry O'Beirne. When she is not on the road, Rosie teaches fiddle to students young and old at her popular music studio in Baltimore. In addition to her two albums on Shipwhistle's label, Rosie contributed as a session musician to EJ Jones' solo album The Willow (which precipitated formation of The Willow Band) and to Zoe Mulford's upcoming solo CD.
[EDITOR'S NOTE: On Sat, Gerry and Rosie will be at Hooligans 112 S Montezuma Street Prescott. Call 928-776-1999]

--- OCT 15 - SET DANCING RETURNS TO THE CENTER
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Sunday, October 15, 2006, The Center will be presenting a Set Dancing Workshop and SeanNos performance by Ronan Regan and Maldon Meehan. Start time is 7:00 pm and Admission is $15.00.
Both founder and director of Meehan Productions, a organization which promotes traditional music and dance, Maldon has over 11 years experience bringing Irish music and dance to the public through performance, education and promoting concerts. As an instructor for Irish dance, including Set, Sean-nós and Céilí dance she has offered workshops throughout the U.S, Canada and Ireland . Maldon has performed at festivals and concerts, including appearances at the Irish World Music Center in Limerick , Ireland , the Celtic Festival in Portland , Oregon , and Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle , Washington . Through Maldon's performances and promoting she has collaborated with internationally renown artist including Kevin Burke, Jackie Daly and Johnny B. Connolly.
Ronan Regan, from Galway on the West Coast of Ireland, is currently completing a MA in Traditional Music Performance in Micheal O' Suilleabhan's Irish World Music Centre in University Limerick. Known for his weaving lyrical fiddling, his infectious pace and his love of the older aesthetic of the North Leitrim Tradition upon which his thesis is based. He favours playing in the more traditional sessions and has performed in such places as the Aran Islands and Inish Bofin off Galway, in the subtle sessions of Kinvarra, South Galway and the sensitive rhythmic sessions of North Leitrim and West Fermanagh . In addition to his musicianship, Ronan is also a Sean Nos dancer, Set dancer and teaches music and dance. He has performed extensively at events such as on stage at the dance recital at the Willie Clancy Festival, Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare.
Sean-nós, literally meaning old style, are a highly improvisational, low to the ground, rhythmic dance form in which the dancer is free to interpret the music. The dancers are the visual/percussive expression of the musical tradition. Musician and dancer are in conversation, with the conversation taking on a life of its own. Using hips and arms, the dancer beats rhythmic steps that are closely linked to music and musician. Traditionally, a dancer danced solo on the hardwood of a half door or the round top of a barrel, as a result the steps are confined to a small space Irish Set dancing is the most popular form of traditional social dancing in Ireland today. Sets are dance in square formation with intricate and rhythmic footwork. The sets can be danced to reels, jigs, slides, polkas and hornpipes. This workshop can be adapted to suite all dance levels and covers regional sets and footwork. Since 2004 Ronan and Maldon have become known for there ability to teach both the set and footwork.

5. SOUTHWEST ACOUSTIC MUSIC GATHERING IN TUCSON OCT 20-21
Dear Friends,
I can't believe it's just less than two weeks before our first "Southwest Acoustic Music Gathering" begins here in Tucson, Arizona! There are some recent changes that I would like to share with all of you:
1. I finally figured out how to download a PDF file of the class schedule to my website. It now available! www.dulcianna.com Thank you for your patience!
2. Tickets just for the evening concerts on Friday, October 20th & Saturday, October 21st are now available to purchase at the "Folkshop" 2525 N. Campbell Ave, (520) 881-7147. Ticket Prices: $15.00 for Friday or Saturday night; both nights $25.00. Discounts for TFTM, TKMA and all students; $13.00 each or both nights for $23.00. Tickets will also be available the night of the concerts at the Proscenium Theater Box Office. The Box Office will open at 6:30 PM; seating will begin at 7:00 PM. It's all first come first served, general seating. Proscenium Theater, 520-206-6986.
3. There are only 30 rooms left at our host hotel; "Ramada Limited". October is the beginning of our tourist season here in Southeastern, Arizona so I recommend that you don't wait too much longer. Our group rate is $67.00 plus tax. You may share a room with up to four people. Splitting it four ways makes it very affordable. It's the same price whether you have one or four, two queens or one king. More information about the hotel is on my website. www.dulcianna.com
4. There will be overnight, dry camp only, RV parking at the college. However, the college does ask that you don't use their dumpsters and as far as security goes you are on your own. Please be there early on Friday, October 21st because of limited spaces. Sorry no tent camping at the college.
5. I have decided to bring back the "Saturday Only Day Pass". It was my hope that I would get enough folks to come to the whole event because it forms a nice community and to simplified the registration. I realize now that some of you might not be able to come to the whole event so a "Saturday Only Day Pass" will be $80.00. That includes all of the workshops and concerts, including the evening concert. That's four hours of workshop time, one hour organized jam session, the recital hall concerts and a two hour concert that evening! That's as low as I can go folks without going way into the red...
6. I have also decided to keep the same prices whether you register early or on the day of the event. I would encourage you to register in advance so that we have your package waiting for you when you arrive. It will make it easier for you and our volunteers. Price is: $120.00 for the three day pass (includes all workshops & concerts) $80.00 for Saturday only (includes all workshops and concerts for that day), and $40.00 for Sunday only (includes student concert and one workshop).
7. Last but not least, "Brown Bag Sandwich Lunches", from a Tucson gem of a restaurant, "Beyond Bread" will be available to order when you register. Prices will range from $5.50 - $8.50 All of their many breads, pastries and salads are made fresh daily at their two locations. It is absolute favorite for us Tucsonans! There will be no dinners offered at the site but we will have a list of favorite, close by, restaurants when you register.
Well I hope this helps clarify things. Please call me at 520-885-2135 for any questions you might have. I'm excited about seeing all of you!! It is also my hope that you will support this uniquely different music conference, I believe it will be magical! Anna Duff aka Dulcianna

Phoenix, AZ ~ The Sixth Annual Arizona Irish Festival is coming to the Irish Cultural Center in Phoenix on Saturday, October 28, 2006. The Festival celebrates historic and modern Ireland and commemorates the Irish in America and all over the world.
The traditional stone buildings at the Center, including a replica of a County Clare cottage, provide the backdrop for the Festival. Stage performances will feature traditional ballads and Irish rock 'n' roll; storytelling and genuine blarney; and the powerful dancing style that made Riverdance famous. A series of presentations on history, literature, genealogy, and traditional Irish crafts and industry will illustrate the Ireland of yesterday and today.
Hance Park will become an Irish field where visitors can enjoy ancient kings, modern princesses, real pubs and festival grub. Shoppers can purchase trendy Celtic fashion, fine art, CDs, and instruments to make their own music. Those seeking their Irish roots can consult a knowledgeable genealogist. Adults and children are welcome to wear Halloween costumes in celebration of the October 31 holiday that once marked the end of summer for the ancient Celts. A silent auction will offer unique prizes to the bold bidder with good timing, and the winner of the raffle at the end of the day will find tickets to Ireland in his or her hand. Special entertainment will be announced at a later date.
The Arizona Irish Festival is directed by members of E.R.I.N. (Executive Resources for Irish Networking) in association with the Irish Cultural and Learning Foundation, a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation. All proceeds of the Festival will benefit the Irish Cultural Center and its ongoing activities.
The Irish Cultural Center is the year-round home for Celtic music, language, and dancing classes; Irish literature and film; touring musicians and actors; and First Friday art exhibits. There she met with local fiddle master Sheila Maguire, and over the course of several permutations, the Celtic rock band Ashling was born. Ashling dominated the local Irish music scene for many years, and with the release of their debut album 'Every Waking Hour', firmly established Bríd as the premiere Irish singer in the Phoenix Valley.
OCEANS APART ~ The music is infectious, ranging from the breathless jigs and hornpipes, through the more relaxed popular songs, all the way along to the ballads and airs.

Sedona Arizona named the most beautiful place in America by USA weekend travel report will be hosting Northern Arizona's only St. Patrick's Day community wide celebration and request your participation and performances at our Parade and Irish Festival. This will be the 37th Annual Sedona St. Patrick's Day Parade and our 3rd Annual Irish Festival.
The parade, with its rural charm and beautiful Red Rock Surroundings, is free to attend and draws an estimated 4000 people of all ages and backgrounds. A grand majority of the spectators are area residents and because of Sedona's phenomenal scenic beauty, our events are also attended by visitors from all over the state, nation and world.
The Irish musical parade entries are the biggest hits and make the event a true celebration of Irish heritage. We hope that you will participate and in some way this year. This St. Patty's Day celebration provides you with an opportunity to meet many people at a fun venue in an absolutely beautiful setting. We will promote your participation in our press releases, posters, broadcast fax to concierges, school flyers, email blasts, etc. It would be an honor to do so.
Our Festival begins at 9:00 a.m. on Jordan Road in Uptown Sedona, while parade entrants are gathering in the staging area at Jordan Historical Park. The Parade occurs from 10:00 until approximately noon in Uptown Sedona. Then the Irish Festival escalates when the live entertainment and a Beer Garden join the ongoing children's activities and food vendors. This is the best time for us to highlight your appearance and we can work out all the specifics.
