--- SUN OCT 21 - FOUNDATION GATE DEDICATION AND PICNIC
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Irish Foundation of Arizona Gate at the Irish Cultural Center is finally a reality, and it is Beautiful! There are many people to thank for their efforts in making this possible: Pat McMorrow who had the original idea to use the symbols of the Shields of the Four Provinces; Paul Ahern, the architect of the ICC, who designed the Gate and worked closely with the contractors; Jimmy O'Connor and his staff who hosted a fun filled fundraiser at O'Connor's Pub in June; Joe Ondyak and his crew at Artistic Iron Design who built and installed the Gate; and everyone who made a contribution toward the project.
To celebrate this wonderful event, there will be a Dedication and Ribbon Cutting ceremony at the Center at 1106 N. Central on Sunday, October 21, 2007. This will be in conjunction with the Fall Picnic which will run from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Everyone is invited to attend and bring their favorite side dish, salad or dessert. $5.00 will cover the cost of the hot dogs and hamburgers. Kids under 12 are admitted free and there will be fun activities for them. Musicians are encouraged to bring their instruments and join in the seisiun.
There will be another exciting silent auction with several photographs of Ireland. Contributions to the auction may be brought the day of the picnic or dropped off at the ICC beforehand. We will also be selling our new baseball caps and visors sporting the American and Irish Flags.
So mark your calendars for October 21 and join us in celebrating the completion of another important part of the Irish Cultural Center and enjoying a lovely fall day with friends and family.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Friday, November 9 the Center located at will be celebrating the return of The Muses. Admission is $5.00 and the show starts at 7:30 pm. If you don't know what is worn under a Scotsman's kilt, or what it feels like to have your imagination filled with Irish mist covering green fields... or especially if you do, you'll want to catch The Muses live! Tanya Brody plays the harp, hammered dulcimer, penny whistle, and many more instruments, but it is her angelic voice that will captivate your heart. Matthew Gurnsey plays the concertina, bodhran, bowed psaltery, mandolin and many others while singing along with a contagious sparkle in his eye that is sure to make you smile. Recently joined is Annie Mariner who's voice, recorder and bass add beauty and fullness to the over all sound. The three of them together are an inspiring trip to the Celtic Isles saving you the price of airfare!
Touring across the United States and Canada, The Muses will be performing locally! The Muses have shared the stage with The Glen Garry Bhoys, Alex Beaton, Rathkiltar, Michi Regier, and others. They play Scottish/Irish festivals and games from coast to coast (including some islands) and never miss an opportunity to entertain at an Irish pub when they have a moment to spare. With beautiful voices creating bewitching vocal harmony The Muses are a Celtic experience you'll not want to miss.
3. MEMO FROM HAIKU RD
Hi, George! I've been very slow to get you updates about Haiku Rd.'s whereabouts and other news, for which I apologize. Here's what's going on with us ...
We're pleased to announce that Jim Brown, formerly of O'Carroll's Gate and a regular fixture on the Arizona Celtic rock scene, is joining us semi-regularly to lend his drumming talents and good vibes to our already high-energy performances. For smaller and more intimate shows, we'll stick to the trio, but when we really want to kick out the jams, he'll be there!
Here are our dates for October:
* Saturday, Oct. 13, 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. -- Ground Control, 14140 W Indian School Rd Suite B1 in Goodyear (www.groundxcontrol.com)
* Friday, Oct. 19, 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. -- Paisley Violin, 1030 Grand Ave. in Phoenix (www.thepaisley.com) for ArtWalk Third Friday (trio show)

5. JIM MALCOM COMING TO ARIZONA IN NOVEMBER
Hello from a very chilly Scotland,
Jim Malcolm, lead singer with Old Blind Dogs until August last year, is
coming to play a concert in Phoenix next month, and we really hope you can
make it along for an evening of fine Scots song and good humour.
On Saturday November 11th, Jim is playing at The Music Corner, Shepherd of
the Valley Lutheran Church, 1500 W Maryland Ave, Phoenix AZ 85015. Tickets
£10. 7.30pm start. For tickets/info you can phone 623-594-2344 or email
carronlee@yahoo.com
Jim is on wonderful form and has a new trick up his sleeve this year which
will make you laugh and is not to be missed. He'll have with him his new CD,
Acquaintance, which is a beautiful collection of songs by Robert Burns, and
all the back catalogue too.
Full concerts listings are at the end of this message. This tour is going to
take Jim from Washington DC all the way west to Phoenix, so it's quite an
adventure for a died-in-the-wool Scotsman.
We hope you've had a better summer than us! Rain, rain, terrorist bomb,
rain... Still, spirits are high. Must be the whisky.
Warm wishes from Jim and me,
Susie Malcolm

7. WANTS TO SELL COPELAND FLUTE
I am seriously considering selling my Copeland flute. And focusing on
collecting more tunes and skill on the whistle. I find I am already
splitting my practice time between 2 instruments and adding the flute,
perhaps before I am ready, is slowing me down.
Eventually I plan to buy another flute but it may be a year or two out
and I'd hate for this flute to be shelved that long. The Copeland
flute has the traditional embruchure and has a great sound, but for a
beginner it is a bit more of a challenge, as it takes more air. When I
buy again, it will be a McGee.
I am putting this out there to see if there is any interest within our
group of friends, before deciding whether to list it somewhere.
I bought this flute from John Good 2 years ago for $1000. I'd like to
recoup some of my losses but don't expect to sell it for that price.
Thanks,
Marni
