-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi George,

Sandi Bonesteel
sandibone@cox.net

Their dynamic stage show features rousing, upbeat vocals, wild energetic dance tunes, haunting ballads and infectious madcap humor. Playing over 100 shows per year, Gaelic Storm has drawn record-breaking crowds at Milwaukee's famed Irish-Fest (in '98, '99, ‘01 and ‘02), Celtic-Fest Chicago, the Dublin Ohio Irish Festival and the Pittsburgh Irish Festival, as well as Festival Interceltique in Lorient, France (the largest Celtic festival in the world). Most recently Gaelic Storm broke the attendance record in June of 2003 at the Albuquerque BioPark, the record was previously held by Alan Jackson. The band has likewise played to capacity crowds at countless clubs, theaters and performing arts centers across the country.

Gaelic Storm never fail to leave audiences on their feet: reeling, dancing and screaming for more! Routinely, devoted fans drive for miles to catch a Gaelic Storm show. As a result, the audience frequently sings along word-for-word in classic pub fashion throughout the band's set. Nominated as "performers of the year" in 1999 and 2000 by the National Association of Campus Activities, Gaelic Storm has garnered a huge following among college students from Hawaii to New Hampshire.

In 1997, Gaelic Storm was catapulted out of their formative pub haunts by an appearance in the blockbuster film Titanic. Cast as the "party band" in the steerage scene, they landed the part while still drinking pints and playing weekly at O'Brien's, a pub in their adopted home-town of Santa Monica, CA.

On their first tour after the film's release, the band was met by huge crowds. Initially shocked by the large audiences, Gaelic Storm remains as accessible as ever, signing autographs after every show and visiting personally with their fans. Personal connection with the audience remains at the heart of every performance. "At the performing arts centers, we invite the audience out for a beer at the local bar across the street or the best Irish pub", Murphy says. "It's another way to meet and greet and get to know them better."

A mini-documentary about Gaelic Storm airs regularly on Cinemax, and the band has appeared numerous times on national and international TV. Gaelic Storm was also featured in two episodes on the award-winning prime time drama "Providence" in October 2001. Perhaps the best indication of Gaelic Storm's newfound international success came when Michael Flatley (of Lord of the Dance fame) met Gaelic Storm vocalist and songwriter Patrick Murphy in Murphy's hometown, Cork City, Ireland.

"I told him he did a superb job of advancing Irish culture throughout the world, like the Chieftains have for years," Murphy says, "and he said, 'In fairness to you, you've probably introduced Irish music to five minutes of fame with that little film clip.'"

Gaelic Storm's eponymous first release is a lively collection of traditional Irish sing-alongs, Celtic dance music and festive, rollicking pub songs. Their endless capacity for up-tempo, high energy music featured on the first release represents why Gaelic Storm was cast as the "Steerage Band" in the Titanic.

With their first album remaining on the charts for over 30 weeks, Gaelic Storm's second album (HERDING CATS, 1999) received even more enthusiastic reviews from both alternative and mainstream music `zines like Irish Music Magazine, Dirty Linen, Request, and In Music We Trust, furthering the band's reputation for traditional and original lively Celtic music.

4. JIM MALCOM IN ARIZONA

Outstanding Scots singer and former frontman with Old Blind Dogs, Jim Malcolm plays traditional, original and Burns songs with guitar, harmonicas, and engaging wit. His original and award-winning songs from Edinburgh, Perthshire, Angus and the Highlands make his concerts a musical tour of Scotland, and his unmistakeable, signature voice has been said to resemble "an aged single-malt whisky." Jim won Songwriter of the Year in 2004 and was nominated for Scots Singer of the Year in 2005, in the Scots Trad Music Awards. He has seven solo CDs to his credit, and is famed for his funny stories and relaxed stage presence.

I have had fans find me in Sedona from Phoenix due to your Newsletter. You have given me leads leading to gigs at several venues all much appreciated, thanks George.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is my press release in case it's of interest.

Karl Jones is a Sedona, Arizona based singer songwriter from Dublin Ireland. He spends part of the year in Ireland where he records, performs and has appeared on Irish Television (Late Late show) and radio.

His singing career began with Pueri Cantore's, (singing boys) a Church choir from Ballinteer, Dublin that toured some of the finest Cathedrals in Ireland and Europe including an invitation to sing for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican which was broadcast on International television.

In the mid 1980's he was the front man for "Mixed up World". This U2 influenced rock group were interviewed on "Dublin City Radio" and performed all around the "Temple Bar" music scene. His first solo collection of songs titled HA! Was a runner up to a group from Limerick called "the Cranberries" in a nationwide Demo tape contest run by Hot Press Magazine.

His American concert debut was in 1993 with his band "Skydancer" at George Washington University's Marvin Center.

The Washington Post reviewed the concert writing "the sound is reminiscent of the more spiritual music of the 6O's … guitar layered harmonies and musical lines repeating into ethereal spirals… Anton Perkins from USA Today described his music as exciting, electric and wonderfully original".

Since childhood he was exposed to the music and inspiration of Christy Moore, The Pogues, Luke Kelly, The Dubliners, Van Morrison, The Chieftains and U2.

His 2007 release is called "Dublin Soul", it's a live solo appearance recorded at a show in Sedona Karl's music has come full circle. He has returned to Ireland's rich story telling and ballad traditions to infuse his original work with elements of the traditional Jigs, reels and old drinking songs he heard in Dublin and Wexford growing up to create a uniquely Celtic sound.

Chris Fox Graham reviewed his CD "Dublin Soul" for Sedona's "Red Rock Newspaper" writing "…Power full sentiments in these songs about leaving home and coming to America…The Celtic influence in his guitar work dances with his expansive tenor voice and novel lyrics that you could easily imagine entertaining crowds in any Irish pub, American bar or coffee house"…

7. ANUNA IN MESA ON TUE AND TUCSON ON WED

Anuna is an Irish choral group. In 1987 Dublin composer Michael McGlynn founded An Uaithne, a name which describes the three ancient types of Celtic music, Suantraí (lullaby), Geantraí (happy song) and Goltraí (lament). One of the group's primary aims was to explore and redefine this music, and also to perform McGlynn's own original works and his arrangements of medieval and traditional Irish music. An Uaithne became Anuna in 1991, and became closely associated with the Riverdance phenomenon from 1994 until 1996. Many of the singers who received inititial training and international exposure through Anuna have gone on to achieve international prominence, including Eimear Quinn who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1996, and no less than four of the soloists who have been featured in Celtic Woman.

The combination of trained and untrained voices with a compelling stage show has brought Anuna to international prominence. McGlynn's choral arrangements are written to accentuate their unique choral sound and to utilise the group's facility to move during performance, as they use neither sheet music not conductor when performing live. Their standard line-up is 14 singers. Anuna won a National Entertainment Award for Classical music in 1994, and were nominated for a Classical Brit Award in 2000, but the greatest impact they have had has been in the USA, where many choral groups have performed Michael McGlynn's compositions primarily due to the recordings of Anuna.

On Friday, December 14, Walter will present a Celtic storytelling session at 7:00 p.m. Cost is $10 ($5 for anyone registered for one of the workshops).
