THE STORY
Michael Flatley, creator and director of this award-winning international dance phenomenon, proved his vision that hearts and minds, united through music and dance, cross all traditional boundaries. His Lord of the Dance continues to shatter box office records all over the world, leaving audiences breathless and clamoring for more.
Described by the Los Angeles Times as a "show piece extravaganza," Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance is a magical adventure of sight and sound that transports its audience to a mythical time and place, lifting the spirits and capturing the hearts of all who experience it.
From the moment the lights go down to the last encore, audiences are spellbound by a masterfully orchestrated combination of precision dancing, state of the art lighting and pyrotechnics. The musical score leaves no soul untouched.
Based on Irish folklore, this classic tale of Good vs. Evil, expressed through the universal language of dance, has thrilled audiences worldwide and catapulted Irish dance to a new dimension and unprecedented worldwide acclaim.
As the story unfolds, the Little Spirit travels through time to help the Lord of the Dance protect his people from the challenge of Don Dorcha, the Dark Lord. As this evil dark power challenges the hero, the incredible adventure continues, drawing its audience into a mythical universe of love, danger, and desire.
4. TEADA CHRISTMAS SHOW - PEORIA, TUCSON & FLAGSTAFF
Following a much-heralded December 2005 tour, which sold out in most cities, Irish Christmas in America returns to the US this December with a spellbinding presentation of seasonal Irish cultural traditions. Featuring Oisín Mac Diarmada, Seán McElwain and Tristan Rosenstock of award-winning traditional Irish group Teada, along with leading Irish-American vocalist Cathie Ryan, the show is given an historical context with an engaging narrative from noted folklorist and author Joe McGowan. The magic of the Irish harp and uilleann pipes from leading exponents Gráinne Hambly and Tommy Martin is augmented by the rhythmic pulse of local Irish step dancers and in selected venues, an evocative photographic slide show. Mingling ancient traditions with the contemporary artistry of some of Ireland's finest performers, the enchanting Irish Christmas in America show brings the spirit of Christmas on a distinctively Irish

11. ABOUT FRIDAY HARBOR CAMP IN MARCH
Greetings,
We're happy to announce the seventh Friday Harbor Irish Music Camp, March 3-9, 2008, in beautiful Friday Harbor, Washington. We're now taking registrations for classes in fiddle, flute, concertina, button accordion, guitar, sean-nos singing, tinwhistle, dance, ear training, and Irish ensemble. The camp website is at http://www.fridayharborirish.com with details about this year's camp, registration information and more. Please note that class selections must be made online this year, rather than on the registration form, and registrations won't be confirmed until that step is done.
Tuition remains at $675US for full-time students who register and pay in full before Jan. 1, 2008, after which it will be $690US. This includes tuition for classes, lodging, meals, and admission to concerts and ceilis. The camp will be a total of 5 class days and 6 nights. Please keep in mind that we try to keep class sizes small, so some classes filled up early in previous years and we had to stop taking students in those classes. We have some new additions to our teaching staff this year, plus some new class offerings, including special two-hour workshops on Saturday for weekend visitors and locals. (These are free to registered students.)
FIDDLE - We're delighted to have Patrick Ourceau back again, and also to be bringing Caoimhin O'Raghallaigh for the first time. If you're not familiar with Caoimhin's music, please go to the camp website and follow the links there. He's a young player with a passion for traditional music who has released some extraordinary recordings, including "Kitty Lie Over", his beautiful duet album with piper Mick O'Brien.
FLUTE - We're fortunate that Catherine McEvoy is again making the trip from Co. Meath. Her classes have been very popular and quite full, and we've had lots of requests for an additional flute teacher. We've engaged a great one in Fintan Vallely, who's taught for years at the Willie Clancy Summer School in Co. Clare. Fintan has several fine recordings to his credit, and he's also a well-known writer on Irish traditional music. You may have seen some of his books and articles, including "The Blooming Meadow: The Soul of Traditional Music."
SEAN-NOS SINGING - The great Connemara singer, Áine Meenaghan will be coming at the end of the week to give a two-hour special class in sean-nos singing on Saturday, and will sing in the Saturday night staff concert. Whether you're a singer or not, you'll learn a lot about Irish traditional music by hearing Aine Meenaghan. She's a native Irish speaker, who literally learned her songs while sitting at the edge of the Atlantic in rural Connemara. Áine's lovely (and rare) CD "Thug Me Grá Duit" will be available at the concert.
EAR TRAINING / MUSIC THEORY - With Caoimhin O'Raghallaigh joining the teaching staff, Randal Bays is going to offer a daily class on ear-training and basic music theory for traditional musicians, all instruments welcome.
RETURNING STAFF: Again, we're very pleased that musicians of this caliber are willing to return to Friday Harbor. See the camp website for more information about them.
CONCERTINA - Gearoid O'hAllmhurain
BUTTON ACCORDION - James Keane
INTRODUCTION TO TINWHISTLE (one class daily) - Andrea Cooper
INTRODUCTION TO IRISH FIDDLING (one class daily) - Randy Vic
IRISH GUITAR ACCOMPANIMENT (one class daily) - Dave Marshall
SET DANCING and SEAN-NOS DANCE (one class daily) - Maldon Meehan
Important, please note: As always, Friday Harbor Irish Music Camp reserves the right to cancel the camp until January 5, 2008, in which case all deposits and registration fees would be returned. Please wait until then to purchase nonrefundable airline tickets, or check with us before doing so.
We hope to see you all at Friday Harbor in March; please email Dan or Randal at fridayharborirish.com with any questions and we'll try to answer them promptly. Also, if you log on to the camp discussion board at fridayharborirish.com you can ask people who've been to the camp about lodgings, food, music or anything else. It's been suggested that this discussion board could help people in terms of traveling together or sharing lodgings at the camp. The camp website is updated with this year's registration and other information, and can be found at fridayharborirish.com
Best wishes,
Randal Bays & Dan Paulson
