I’ve created a directory of Open Mic programs around the Phoenix area. In addition to the Sunday open mic at the Dubliner and the Tuesday open mic at Rula Bula, there are 35 other open mic programs.
The typical format of an open mic is that they have a start time and performers can sign up an hour or two before the nominal start time. Usually they give each performer two songs or a set time allowance.
Our site at www.azirishmusic.com/open_mic.htm is sorted by day of the week. For aspiring to become vocalists, it is a good place to try out your skills in front of an audience.
2. ACADEMY CLASSES START ON JAN 5
Irish Cultural Center
On Monday, January 5, 2009, The Irish Cultural Center located at 1106 North Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85004 will be starting Term 1 of the Academy of Irish & Celtic Studies. Classes are offered in Music (13 different instruments) and Language (Irish and Welsh) We will also be offering a music theory class which will cover all instruments. The academy classes are one hour in length and meet once a week for 9 sessions. The cost for music and language classes is $90.00 for the 9 week term. Private lessons are available in 30 or 60 minute time slots. The cost for private lessons is $15.00 per 30 minute class and $30.00 per 60 minute class. The 3rd Saturday of most months, we offer Ceili dance lessons. This is a 2 hour dance-intensive workshop, geared towards both beginning and advanced dancers of all ages. Cost is $16.00 for adults and $2.00 for children under 12 Class days and times vary, and can usually be adjusted to suit your schedule.
