AIMS NEWS AND NOTES
1. Out and About --- HAPPY NEW YEAR --- HAPPY NEW YEAR The Irish are always interested in a party and New Year's Eve is no exception.
Irish Cultural Center - Contradance Can it really be nearly 2007 already? Time flies. Overall it was a good year, despite it raining on the Parade after six months of drought!??! It has certainly been busy with the addition of two new pubs in the Phoenix area, a new pub in Tucson, and a new pub in Prescott. There are some new bands such as the Brazen Heads, the Rakes, and Cork Road while several bands released new CD's including the McMorrows, Sven Henrich, O'Carroll's Gate, Oceans Apart, and the Chuckawalla Rhythm Kings (I'm sure I'm missing somebody…). Arizona was a popular destination for touring groups include Leahy, Danu, Patrick Ball, Matthew Gilsenan, Black Watch, Welsh Guards, Ken O'Malley, Battlefield Band, Solas, Maire Ni Chathasaigh, Christopher Dean, Four Shillings Short, Alastair Fraser and Paul Machlis, Luka Bloom, Roger Landes and Randall Bays, Gaelic Storm, Young Dubliners, Old Blind Dogs, Van Morrison, Marian Tomas Griffin, Gerry O'Beirne and Rosie Shipley, Riverdance, Dervish, Ensemble Galilei, and Bonnie Rideou plus visits by festival performances such as Alex Beaton, Celtic Spring, Bad Haggis, Wicked Tinkers, Tartan Terrors, Paisley Close, Brian Freeman, Tanya Brody, and Michi Regier. 2006 also had major comedy and music shows by both the Hal Roach troupe and the Novel V. Ginnity show. But despite fears that there would be over saturation, 2007 promises to be just as busy. The ICC is a busy place for all kinds of activities. In addition to daily tours, the Academy, special workshops, and hosting meetings for Celtic community groups, there were a substantial number of programs and activities: Banquets and Receptions Concerts Dance Events Exhibits Fund Raisers Lectures Movies & Videos Party or Picnic Theater and Story Telling (I regret that I do not have a complete list of the fine programs the Welsh League has presented on the first Sat at noon of each month because they are excellent. They include a St David's Day Party, a program on Welsh folk dancing, a guest lecturer on theWelsh language, a pub quiz, and a video on "Welsh-Americans' Involvement In The American Civil War").
