Jim Cunningham 2004 Parade Grand Marshall The chairman of the first Phoenix St. Patrick's Day parade in 1984 returns as grand marshal of the 21st parade Saturday on Central Avenue. Jim Cunningham, a Phoenix attorney, earned the honor through his involvement with the Irish community in various capacities over the years, including the building of the Irish Cultural Center in Hance Park. His parents arrived in America in the early 1930s from County Mayo and settled in Chicago. They moved to Arizona when he was 6 because his mother was seriously ill with tuberculosis. |
