Flagstaff SOLAS CONCERT Living Traditions Presentations is proud
to present Solas in concert on Friday, March 31, 2006. Solas is a
“five-piece Irish-American band of startling instrumental and
vocal firepower” says the LA Times. Solas formed in 1996 and
since then, they have been proclaimed as the most popular, influential,
and exciting Celtic band to ever emerge from the United States. They
have performed at all the major Celtic and Folk festivals, including
Philadelphia, Edmonton, the National Folk Festival, and Milwaukee’s
Irish Fest; but have also performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival,
and the chamber music summer series at Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
These names are just a taste of where Solas has performed. |
Tucson Rhythm & Roots presents SOLAS Sunday, April 2, 7:30pm Traditional Irish Music featuring All-Ireland Champions
Solas blends deeply rooted Irish traditional
music with playful inventiveness and extraordinary virtuosity. Solas,
which means "light" in Gaelic, includes musicians who established
themselves as young masters. Multi-instrumentalist Seamus Egan plays
flute, whistle, mandolin and tenor banjo. At age 15 won the All-Ireland
championship on all four instruments. Winifred Horan is an All-Ireland
fiddle champion, who has appeared on recordings by Seamus Egan, Karan
Casey, Sharon Shannon, Eileen Ivers and Cathy Ryan. Mick McAuley,
from Kilkenny, is a virtuoso on button accordion, concertina and piano
accordion. Lead vocalist Deirdre Scanlan, a native of County Tipperary,
sings in Gaelic and English. Eamon McElholm, born and raised in County
Tyrone in the north of Ireland, plays guitar, keyboards and cello.
Solas appears in support of their fifth recording, "The Edge
of Silence." |
